The course aims: to provide a learning environment for advanced performance in traditional Irish music to the highest standard; to honour the artistic integrity, history, and identity of the performance practice within an academic and performance orientated context; to facilitate interactivity with other performance practices; to assist each individual performer in finding his or her voice through traditional music performance; to facilitate the cross-fertilisation of both the academic and performance pursuits of postgraduate performing music, dance and academic programs; to equip the student with the necessary vocational skills for modern professional performance contexts.

A one-year, full-time postgraduate program, the MA Composition and Creative Music Practice is designed to develop individual artistic practice and facilitate collaborative exploration of cross-genre, cross-arts and cross-cultural creativity. These programs in MA in Classical Music Performance (Piano, Violin, Flute, Guitar) are for the truly committed – for those young artists who do have the aim to be on stage regularly. In the instrumental performance classes held two times a week through four semesters the goal is to achieve: - technical abilities of a real virtuoso, - playing stability and reliability, - detailed stylistic knowledge of all major eras and genres of classical music related to the instrument studied, - an ability to shape the musical process down to the smallest nuances and shades with ease and creativity, - a fundamental respect for the composer’s instructions, put into a viable combination with the performer’s own ideas and personality.

This MA Classical String Performance is unique due to its partnership with the Irish Chamber Orchestra (ICO); All students receive a weekly instrumental lesson with the relevant ICO principal plus technique lessons and chamber coaching with ICO members.

Those choosing the Advanced Master in Contemporary Music programme at the Royal Conservatory/School of Arts Ghent work under the guidance of the Ictus and SPECTRA contemporary music ensembles, on projects with an emphatic focus on recently composed music. Students specialize in contemporary music, as soloists or members of an ensemble. They play an active role in creating new works by both young and established composers.

MA studies in Vocal Studies with a specialty in Solo Singing – Early Music is, according to the approved and implemented concept, specialty studies focused on studying a selected range of professional skills, according to candidates’ voice preferences and defined artistic passions.

The Master’s in Church Music programme aims to educate musicians that possess high artistic, educational and professional abilities. We offer specialisations in Arrangement and Composition, Organ and Keyboard, and Vocal Music and Choir. On completion of the programme, the student must possess advanced knowledge and skills in order to work within the various functions and engagements of a professional musician – either as a soloist, a member of an established ensemble or as a church musician within the Church of Sweden or within other denominations.
