King’s contains one of the largest concentrations of medievalists in the UK, bringing together scholars in medieval history, languages, literature and culture, with expertise across Europe and Asia. Our MA in Medieval Studies not only offers specialist training in crucial research skills—in particular, medieval Latin and palaeography—but also is outward-looking, exploring and critiquing the place of medieval history and perceptions of the medieval past in the world today.

The MA in English Literature aims to deepen your passion for literature while developing the rigorous specialist skills essential to postgraduate-level research. The MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages gives you the valuable skills to engage with theoretical and practical challenges of teaching English as a foreign language, or as a second language.   

The Translation Studies MA covers professional and academic training in English and Chinese languages. Translation Studies is an academically focused pathway of our Translation and Localisation MA.

Our Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) MA will provide you with a thorough introduction to current research, teaching theory, principles and practices in English language teaching. You will have the opportunity to observe actual language classes, plan and teach real lessons and carry out research on language learning and teaching.

The TESOL MA programme has two routes: in-service and pre-service. The TESOL (Pre-Service) aims to enhance the employment prospects of graduates, who hope to become English Language Teaching practitioners, but who have no professional experience of teaching English to speakers of other languages. Students will explore the latest developments in the theory, policy and practice of TESOL, working with leading experts in the field and a large cohort of MA students.

Our Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) course combines theoretical academic study with practical application and skills development in English language teaching.

Our Specialised Translation MA offers advanced training in preparation for a career in translation. This course is open to both native and non-native speakers of English who also speak any of the following languages: Chinese, French, German, Italian, or Spanish.

The MA Islamic Humanities explores the social, cultural, and intellectual history, arts, and philosophy of the Islamic world. Using interdisciplinary approaches, it challenges essentialist narratives and highlights diversity. Open to all academic backgrounds, no prior knowledge of Islam or other languages is required.

The Master's track in European Literature and Interculturality is located at the Department of European Languages and Cultures. This international, interdisciplinary and multilingual environment offers excellent opportunities for research and immerses them in vibrant networks of experts across different European countries and languages. The following languages can be chosen as major languages: French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish and Swedish.

The MA Coursework program consists of two-course work modules (one offered in the first semester and one in the second semester), and a minor dissertation. The course work modules have a weighting of 45 credits each.

The Master of Arts (MA) in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages Programme (TESOL) programme seeks to promote the effectiveness of English language teaching through providing advanced training in English teaching. In addition to the enhancement of theoretical and practical knowledge in second/foreign language teaching and learning, the programme also aims at refining students’ teaching skills, developing their abilities to reflect on their own practice and fostering their cultural awareness essential for them to thrive personally and professionally in the increasingly culturally diverse society of Macao and the world at large.
