The MA Applied Language Studies and Interpreting is a full-time postgraduate program run by the University of Pretoria. As the most diverse Faculty at the University, Humanities offers an exciting range of programs and discipline-based majors. The Humanities programs offer part-time and full-time options and allow students to specialize in a chosen field.

The MA in Japanese Studies and Intensive Language is a 2-year full-time (or four-year part-time) programme. This MA is designed to provide intensive language training at different proficiency levels - depending on entry level - within a master's programme in Japanese Studies. Master transferable language and analytical skills in order to prepare for a variety of potential future professional or research careers.

The Translation Studies MA covers professional and academic training in English and Chinese languages. Translation Studies is an academically focused pathway of our Translation and Localisation MA.

The MA in Japanese Studies at SOAS is the most comprehensive available anywhere in Europe. You are able to choose modules that cover Japan’s history from the pre-modern era to the present, and range over the social and political sciences as well as humanities. Students who take this programme come from many countries and have a wide variety of academic backgrounds.

DCU’s MA in Translation Studies offers advanced language and translation training, leading to a postgraduate degree. As part of the prestigious European Masters in Translation (EMT) Network, it’s recognized by the European Commission. Graduates are sought after by top public institutions and multinational organizations.

The goal of the degree program in MA in English Studies is to train experts in the field of English Studies who have sound theoretical, methodological and practical knowledge of the English language and can apply such knowledge in practice. They have thorough knowledge and understanding of the literature, culture and the social and political systems of English-speaking countries, including Great Britain, Ireland and Canada, the major trends and research fields of modern theoretical and applied linguistics and their results that mainly apply to the English language.

In MA Intercultural Studies encounter cultural differences every day both in our private and professional lives. Such differences are related to a society or a language area, but also to professions, ethnicities, religions, social groups, generations, and/or organizations. As a student of Intercultural Studies, you will acquire insights into different theoretical approaches to interculturality in the transnational world and work with the interrelationships of local, national, regional, and transnational identities.

The Department of Asian Studies currently offers an English-language graduate program in the China section only. The MA program includes a wide variety of courses on Chinese history, archaeology, philosophy, intellectual history, political thought, traditional China’s interaction with Asian and European cultures, as well as culture, society, and politics in traditional, modern, and contemporary China.

The MA Japanese Studies dual degree is based at Sophia University – Japanese Master’s programmes are typically two years long, and SOAS contributes to it by offering its MA in Japanese Studies as an option for students originally enrolled at Sophia University.

The MA Islamic Humanities explores the social, cultural, and intellectual history, arts, and philosophy of the Islamic world. Using interdisciplinary approaches, it challenges essentialist narratives and highlights diversity. Open to all academic backgrounds, no prior knowledge of Islam or other languages is required.

The M.A. program in English Studies at KJU aims to provide in-depth knowledge of multi-level global/European/national/local governance, transnational business, and civil language communication services, the design and management of language service programs, the organization and management of related research on language use, cultural and environmental contexts, and the development of quality and innovative service models.

The MA in Chinese Studies provides an exceptional opportunity to take advantage of the wide range of disciplinary approaches to the study of Chinese societies available at SOAS. The main emphasis is on modern and contemporary China, although it is also possible to study aspects of pre-modern China. Students who take this degree come from many countries and have a wide variety of academic backgrounds.

In the Master’s Programme in English Studies at the University of Helsinki, you develop your expertise in areas that are often separated in other programmes: English language and linguistics, literature in English and the teaching of English. You can take courses in all three areas or just focus on one of them.

The MA in Chinese-English Translation and Language is available if you are a first language Mandarin speaker from China, interested in an applied language career such as translating and teaching English or Chinese as a foreign language.
