The MA in Japanese Studies and Intensive Language is a 2-year full-time (or four-year part-time) programme. This MA is designed to provide intensive language training at different proficiency levels - depending on entry level - within a master's programme in Japanese Studies. Master transferable language and analytical skills in order to prepare for a variety of potential future professional or research careers.

The MA Japanese Studies dual degree is based at Sophia University – Japanese Master’s programmes are typically two years long, and SOAS contributes to it by offering its MA in Japanese Studies as an option for students originally enrolled at Sophia University.

The MA History of Art and Archaeology of East Asia and Intensive Language is a two-year programme, combining the strengths of the MA History of Art and Archaeology of East Asia with intensive language training in Chinese, Japanese or Korean. You will study the arts of China, Korea and Japan, exploring a wide range of East Asian arts and material culture, from Chinese archaeology to Japanese prints, Korean installation works to Buddhist monuments, in historical and contemporary periods.

This programme will enhance your understanding of educational theory and practice by focusing on issues of culture, language and identity, and is taught by internationally-renowned experts.

The MA Multilingualism, Linguistics and Education is an applied linguistics programme with an emphasis on both linguistic and cultural diversity, which provides a solid understanding of key theoretical and practical issues in multilingual and intercultural educational settings.

The Conference Interpreting MA prepares you for work as a professional conference interpreter for international organisations and the private market. Languages offered include Mandarin, French, English, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Russian and Spanish. You'll benefit from work placements, site visits and dummy booth practice at the European Commission, the Court of Justice of the European Union and the United Nations (Geneva and Vienna). Our state-of-the-art interpreting suite is equipped with digital facilities for interpreting practice, virtual classes and web streaming.
