The Hebrew University’s MA in Archaeology & the Ancient Near East – Prehistory Section tackles these questions and more, exploring the evolutionary, genetic, and cultural forces that shaped early human history. From the earliest stone tools of the Paleolithic to the agricultural revolutions of the Neolithic, the program provides a deep dive into the prehistoric era—before the advent of writing—when humans first developed the technologies, behaviors, and adaptations that set the stage for civilization.

In the M.A. in Israel Studies program, you’ll examine the historical processes that led to the creation of today’s Israeli society, the complicated relationships between the various groups that live side by side within the boundaries of the State of Israel, and the ways in which Israel copes with these challenges domestically and abroad. The Swiss Center for Conflict Research, Management, and Resolution at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem offer a prestigious one-year MA program taught in English.

The Institute of Archaeology and the Rothberg School at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem invites students from all over the world to study the history and culture of the Land of the Bible, in the Bronze and Iron Ages, through archaeology, text, and ancient languages. The rich program incorporates both studies in the classroom and in the field, as the students are required to participate in major excavations and surveys conducted by top researchers of the Institute.

The Department of Asian Studies currently offers an English-language graduate program in the China section only. The MA program includes a wide variety of courses on Chinese history, archaeology, philosophy, intellectual history, political thought, traditional China’s interaction with Asian and European cultures, as well as culture, society, and politics in traditional, modern, and contemporary China.

Using the M.A. track offered at the Melton Centre as a strong base, we have developed a blended On-Site and Distance MA Program (non-research intended for students’ resident overseas) in Jewish Education, which is offered to Jewish educators in Jewish communities around the world. The intensive M.A. in Nonprofit Management and Leadership is a joint venture of Hebrew U's Rothberg International School (RIS) and the Paul Baerwald School of Social Work and Social Welfare. As a participant in this program, you’ll be equipped with the skills you need to become a leader in the nonprofit world, with a focus on civil society and social change.

The uniqueness of this center will be its a priori social science perspective. It will emphasize the role of technological innovation and smart urban practice in improving the economic welfare, democratic participation, and quality of life of urban residents. In this respect, smart cities are conceived as a vehicle for empowering smart citizens, rather than the other way around.

Offered in a fully online format by Hebrew University’s Rothberg International School (RIS) in conjunction with the Department of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies, the M.A. in Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies is an intensive, integrated program designed for students who wish to study the religion, politics, society, history, and culture of the Middle East.

The teaching program is affiliated to the three Faculties: Social Sciences, Law, and Humanities. The teaching language is English. In addition to basic and methodological courses as well as simulations, obligatory to all participants, the program offers five specialization tracks over a period of two years:

Hebrew University’s Rothberg International School (RIS) offers a two-year M.A. program in the Bible and the Ancient Near East. This program focuses on contemporary Biblical studies (Hebrew scriptures) and provides grounding in both Biblical Hebrew and Akkadian, with the option to study Modern Hebrew at the beginner through advanced levels.

Students who successfully complete this program may register at the International University of Catalonia (Barcelona, Spain) and be awarded a Master’s of Arts Degree in Ancient Philology by that institution once they have fulfilled its requirements.

The Two-Year Academic Program in Near Eastern Languages consists of intensive and full immersion modern and ancient language courses in Arabic and Hebrew as well as courses in history, philosophy, and literature of the ancient and contemporary Near East.
