75 MA Degree Programs in Hungary

The Institute for Art Theory and Media Studies at ELTE is currently the only higher institution of education in Hungary to offer an English-language MA degree in Film Studies.

The Ethnic and Minority Policy Master Program deals with minority issues and ethnic diversity in the region of Eastern and Central Europe with regard to the integration process of the countries of the region into the international community of the European Union. The serious ethnic conflicts of the region, the demand for countries to meet European norms in the area of minority issues, the increase in migration, and the simultaneous growth of xenophobia, anti-Semitism, and homophobia all contribute to a pressing need in Eastern and Central Europe for highly trained professionals who have the insight and expertise to identify the main political, social and psychological reasons behind tensions and discriminations and who are also equipped with the skills and techniques to handle and moderate these conflicts.

The goal of the program is to train professionals who are capable of practicing archaeology with their acquired general knowledge in archaeology and in selected specializations. The program provides comprehensive knowledge of a number of fields in the archaeology of Central Europe and Eurasia. It focuses on topics such as the archaeology of rituals, the archaeology of art, styles, and identities, the archaeology of war, the archaeology of feasts and food, social archaeology, the archaeology of death, trade, transport, and mobility.

The MA course offered by the Institute of Philosophy at the Faculty of Humanities is a two-year, full-time program comprising four semesters. Students need to have some philosophical background – a minimum of 30 credits as part of their BA studies.

Among other courses in MA in Classical Singing, the theoretical fields to be covered include Music History, Folk Music, Contemporary Culture, Analysis, but students also visit concerts and take part in composition practices.

Our MA in American Studies offers a comprehensive overview of the field at the graduate level. Students are required to take core courses in the different subfields of American Studies and in related areas such as cultural studies and cultural history, the social sciences and research methodologies, historical linguistics, popular and visual culture, etc. All these pave the way for the individual research students are required to undertake for their thesis in North American literature and literary studies in an interdisciplinary manner. The thesis supervised by our colleagues at the Institute of English Studies is to be handed in in the fourth semester and defended in order to earn an MA in American Studies.

Content development is at the heart of the Animation MA programme at MOME, which teaches students the different roles and processes of animation production as well as and the use of immersive and emerging technologies (AR, VR, MR). The main pillars of the are developing independent perspectives, finding an individual artistic voice and creative method, and mastering a responsible design approach.

The aim of the program in MA in Psychology is to train professionals, who will be qualified in more branches of psychology and gain special knowledge in the field of Counselling and School Psychology. They will study the methodologies and instruments used in psychology, and will be able to use these with individuals, groups or organizations especially schools for their understanding and development.

The goal of the program in MA in International Relations is not only to train highly qualified experts with broad education in the social sciences, but also to train critical citizens who can understand global policies, uncover political manipulations and can interprete processes in an objective way, considering multiple perspectives.

The interdisciplinary Semiotics MA program at ELTE trains students to become well-trained specialists in the semiotics of culture with a global overview of the various fields of humanities: literary studies, linguistics, philosophy, visual arts, and general art studies – including approaches to the fine arts, films, theatre and music – and also the most contemporary methods of research synthesized from a semiotic methodological point of view.

Our MA in Social Policy programme aims to train social policy practitioners who, based on their theoretical and methodological knowledge, can participate in policymaking in the field of social policy, manage and contribute to the operation of the care system, represent social interests, and theorize, research, and teach social and social policy.

The MA in International Sports Diplomacy is a full-time option of the master’s program that equips individuals with the skills needed to work in international or national sport federations engaged in global activities. It is further enriched by a multicultural student body and alumni network.
