The Institute for Art Theory and Media Studies at ELTE is currently the only higher institution of education in Hungary to offer an English-language MA degree in Film Studies.

The MA in Film Studies course has been designed for students who want to deepen their knowledge of world cinemas and media. It offers an extensive range of options covering all aspects of film and media including theory, history, style, representation, spectatorship, philosophy, and critical media practice (filmmaking).

The programme in MA Film offers a thorough grounding in postgraduate-level film. We are happy to consider applications from applicants with a background in either film or a related humanities subject. The MA Film programme is taught by experts in Film and seeks to engage you with the key elements that make up the diverse nature of film and moving images.

Then the Master’s track ‘Film and Contemporary Audiovisual Media’ is the right one for you. An internship in film, television or other media is part of the program as well. In ‘Film and Contemporary Audiovisual Media’ you will work closely with our international faculty, who will initiate you into the latest theoretical debates in film and media studies. You will learn to work with state-of-the-art approaches such as phenomenology, film-cognitivism, ecocriticism, film philosophy, digital film forensics, and experimental media archaeology.
