MA Documentary and Factual will give you the skills and understanding needed to work as a director and/or producer in today’s factual content industries. Specific topics include finding and developing ideas, researching protagonists, learning interview techniques, researching and accessing contributors, creating stories, and pitching ideas.

DCU’s MA in Documentary Practice, backed by 30 years of film and TV teaching expertise, meets the rising industry demand for long-form documentaries. With access to a state-of-the-art media studio and industry-standard equipment, students gain the skills and experience needed to excel in documentary filmmaking.

The Documentary Film programme is focused on the auteur concept of the creative documentary. During the two-year studies, the students are guided to find their author’s or directorial voice and develop their factual storytelling skills. Each semester supports the development of both authorship and technical and analytical skills. Students create one short documentary each semester and complete their studies with a final film.
