Within the Institute of History, the Department for Interdisciplinary History has been providing education in the field of cultural heritage since 2012, initially as a specialization of the History MA program, and from 2016 in the form of an independent Hungarian master's degree program. Since 2018, the Department has been coordinating a bilingual (English and French) Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree program on cultural heritage (TEMA+ European Territories. Heritage and Development), in association with four partner universities (Charles University, Prague; École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Paris; University of Catania; Université Laval, Québec) and in cooperation with European Heritage Label (EHL) and various UNESCO organs. The English-language Cultural Heritage Studies MA program is based on the domestic and international experiences of the department. The program includes two specializations: 1) Theory of Cultural Heritage, 2) Museum and Curatorial Studies. The program provides internships for students in several institutions involved in heritage protection and management.

The Public History and Cultural Heritage MA program provides a structured academic approach to the practice of history in a public setting through modern models of online learning. This program has been developed to include a combination of conceptual, methodological and practice-based modules, thus broadening the student’s intellectual and scholarly experience. The program offers a globally-recognised postgraduate qualification in a cutting-edge area of historical practice and provides opportunities to expand industry/academia partnerships. The online delivery of the program enables prospective students whether already working in public cultural institutions, or employed in other sectors of the economy, the opportunity to acquire a globally recognised postgraduate qualification. It will appeal to new graduates and history teachers seeking continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities. As an online program it provides prospective students complete flexibility.

The V&A/RCA MA History of Design draws on the exceptional resources and national and international networks of two world-leading centres of excellence for scholarship and creativity, the RCA and the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A). With a base at the RCA and dedicated programme rooms and library at the V&A, since its foundation in 1983, this pioneering programme has earned a worldwide reputation as the leading MA programme in the field. The aim of the course is to systematically and coherently develop a range of historical research skills and thereby, further the historical understanding of local and regional communities and societies.

The MA in Global Irish Studies brings together a wide range of historical, literary, and musical disciplines to examine the interconnected notions of local and global Irishness. By exploring the global positioning of Irish identity and culture we aim to bring fresh perspectives to the understanding of Irish identities and cultures.

Depending upon their interest and area of specialisation, students may choose one of the following options:

History at Winchester concentrates on different geographical scales of history, including local and global perspectives. It gives you the opportunity to engage with a range of approaches to the study of history, examining a range of historical subjects from ancient history to the present.

The course covers the role of history in the public arena: museums, documentaries, monuments, lectures, guided tours and community events are just some of the things that constitute Public History. It also examines the relationship between history and politics, and the powerful influence of history on contemporary society.

The Master of Arts in History of Ideas degree program is designed both for individuals wishing to enhance their knowledge of the history of thought and culture and the skills for studying it and for those intending to pursue a doctorate in a related field. Students concentrate on the study of philosophy and intellectual and cultural history, with a focus on modern Europe and America.

The MA in European History, Politics and Society combines interdisciplinary course work on modern and contemporary Europe with expert training in writing, research, and presentation. Students pursue individualized programs within the frame of Europe as a whole and its relations with other world regions. Founded in 1992, the program is supported by a renowned faculty and Columbia's extensive resources for the study of European history, politics, economics, culture, and society. The program is ideal for students who want to combine advanced work in the humanities or social sciences with deep knowledge of Europe and its place in the world. Graduates of European History, Politics and Society go on to careers in government, business, journalism, and the non-profit sector as well as doctoral and professional programs at North American and European universities.

For the MA in Medieval and Renaissance Studies, students must take a combination of courses in art history, religion, history, philosophy, literature or other relevant fields offered by departments in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Students concentrate in one area while also exploring other aspects of the life, thought, and culture of the Middle Ages.

Students in the M.A. in History program may choose either the 3-term (1 year) cognate option or the 6- term (2-year) thesis option.
