8 Asian Studies MA Degree Programs in Asia

Zhejiang University (ZJU) is the first in China to grant a master's degree in China Studies approved by the Ministry of Education. Compared to similar programs in the country, the Master of China Studies (MCS) program has the largest enrollment, with the most complete curriculum and the most extensive international cooperation. It is a model brand of ZJU in high-level international education. In November 2014, the Zhejiang University Institute of China Studies (ICS) was established.

The Department of Asian Studies currently offers an English-language graduate program in the China section only. The MA program includes a wide variety of courses on Chinese history, archaeology, philosophy, intellectual history, political thought, traditional China’s interaction with Asian and European cultures, as well as culture, society, and politics in traditional, modern, and contemporary China.

The Eurasian MA is an interdisciplinary program that combines Anthropology, History, Literature, Political Science, Religious Studies and Sociology. We define Eurasia inclusively, comprising not just the five post-Soviet republics of Central Asia, but Xinjiang, Mongolia, Afghanistan, the Caucasus, Russia, and Eastern Europe. We believe the Eurasian MA will allow you to explore a wide range of intellectual interests, to receive rigorous training in your chosen field, and to take an interdisciplinary approach to whatever research questions you develop.

The Master of Arts in China and Regional Studies (CRS) is a comparative area studies programme that aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to examine the multifaceted theoretical and empirical debates surrounding China's engagements with African countries, and its neighbouring countries in Asia and Pacific region.

This English-language MA reflects the requirements of social cohesion as well as the labour market and is aimed at building state institutions in a harmonious society. Taking into consideration the specificity of the Caucasus region, the programme will train qualified and competitive specialists in the following disciplines: Anthropology, Linguistics, Political Science, and International Relations.

The College of Liberal Arts, Journalism, and Communication at OUC offers this Master’s of China Studies program for international students with a keen interest in China who hope to broaden their previous studies or experiences of China, and for those who may have had little exposure to China in their studies to date and are limited by their Chinese language ability. It also aims to equip advanced, specialized personnel with a sophisticated and comprehensive understanding of China.
