OUM’s MD USMLE Pathway Program begins with online pre-clinical study which allows some students to manage a limited work schedule through a portion of years one and two. Since students spend an average of 40-50 hours per week on their studies, essentially representing a second full-time job, some students seek a much abbreviated professional presence to accommodate.

The Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) program is designed to develop the characteristics that people want to see in their physicians. The four-year curriculum fuses behavioral, biological, clinical, community health and social sciences with the humanities. Students are grounded in the complex interplay of these disciplines as they pertain to patient care and health outcomes.

This progressive approach to medical education creates and shapes empathetic scholars who are both adept at caring for patients, and able to meet the health care challenges of tomorrow. The student is central to the educational program.

A medical student’s journey begins as soon as they enter the UMKC School of Medicine’s B.A./M.D. program. Immediate exposure to a curriculum that builds a strong foundation in medical science and clinical skills is integrated with the liberal arts and humanities into a year-round program.

The Office of Global Health (OGH) at UT Southwestern is committed to reducing health disparities globally, and training the next generation of leaders in global health. The OGH has supported global health activities for more than 700 students since 2010. These students have completed clinical rotations and research activities in more than 35 countries around the world. The Community Health Track provides students with practice-oriented and/or service-oriented learning opportunities related to community medicine. The track provides students interested in Community Health with an immersive and experiential opportunity that blends traditional learning modalities (didactic lectures, roundtable discussions, and individual-paced study) with fieldwork conducting research in collaboration with selected community-based organizations, within the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, working with underserved populations.

The Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) curriculum at Texas A&M Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy prepares professional student pharmacists to enter the pharmacy profession with the knowledge, skills, and experience expected of highly-trained health care professionals.

Rapid changes in science, technology, the economy, and the social environment are reshaping health care. The UF College of Medicine is responding to these changes through continuous curriculum renewal. The college is known for its programs in competency-based education, performance-based teaching, community and urban clinical training, interactive learning, and the clinical presentation model, a UF-developed list of approximately 120 ways patients can present illnesses physicians. The model helps students identify the illness when the symptom is the only clue a patient can give.

The International Dental Program (IDP) offers non-US trained dentists the opportunity to earn a D.M.D. degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry. Following an intensive 6-month preparatory term, qualified students merge with traditional students to complete the final two years of the D.M.D. curriculum. In the first term, students are introduced to the UAB patient care philosophy and dental techniques. Students who participate in this program will represent a great diversity of training, background, and experience levels. For this reason, some standardization is necessary. Students will spend time in preclinical training, classroom sessions, and small group seminars. Qualified students are then integrated with traditional D3 students to complete the final two years of the D.M.D. a curriculum which is spent primarily in clinical activities. The major focus of the D3 year is on patient care. Students work in treatment teams providing comprehensive dental care. Rotations in community clinics, emergency care, endodontics, geriatrics, hospital dentistry, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontology, prosthodontics, & treatment planning ensure exposure to all aspects of dental care including advanced procedures and special patient populations. The evidence-based didactic curriculum is designed to offer companion courses to clinical experiences.

Accredited by the American Dental Association (ADA) Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), our progressive four-year curriculum is designed to prepare students to practice the science and art of dentistry while introducing the various aspects of specialty care. The early curriculum focuses on preparing the student for the supervised delivery of dental care through our holistic approach of integrating the behavioral, biomedical, and clinical sciences. We believe that early clinical activities are essential for student development. As such, our students participate in clinical activities beginning with their first term. In addition, our biomedical science education is among the top in the nation. It is organized by organ system to better help students make the vital connection between biomedical science knowledge and clinical practice. Major time is devoted to the biomedical sciences with an emphasis on integrating this knowledge into clinical care as well as the preclinical dentistry laboratory where students master the hands-on component of dental care.
