22 Legal Practice LLM Degree Programs

The Master of Laws Advanced Legal Practice (Solicitors Qualifying Examinations Pathway) programme aims to provide students who wish to qualify as solicitors of England and Wales the opportunity to prepare for the mandatory Solicitors’ Qualifying Examinations (SQE). Students will obtain a Master’s degree while simultaneously preparing for the SQE and equipping themselves with those Postgraduate attributes needed to address complex issues both systematically and creatively, showing originality in tackling and solving legal problems. 

The master's degree in Legal Practice is designed to provide specialized training for legal experts who wish to focus their careers on practice as lawyers. It therefore covers the prerequisites for legal practice established by Law 34/2006 of 30 October on access to the professions of lawyer and solicitor and the corresponding regulations set out by Royal Decree 775/2011 of 3 June. Accordingly, the program is taught through the UB Faculty of Law and the Barcelona Bar Association (ICAB).

The study programme includes courses that could be integrated within the four jurisdictional orders (civil, criminal, contentious-administrative and social), analysing both extrajudicial and judicial aspects. Cross-curricular courses necessary for legal practice and legal representation will also be covered, including professional ethics, professional practice, and the organisation of the Bar.

Our LLM Legal Practice (SQE1&2) course will offer you the best possible preparation to practise law. This course incorporates preparation for both SQE1 and SQE2, as well as additional content, called SQE Plus*, considered highly desirable by law firms, including key practice areas (KPAs) and further additional modules in the business of law or research of a specialist practice area. It is professionally-focused, and will equip you with the key legal knowledge and skills required to pass SQE and will prepare you for practice before your qualifying work experience (QWE).

If you want to practise as a solicitor in England and Wales you will need to complete the Legal Practice Course (LPC) – the vocational stage of training that bridges the gap between academic studies and life in a law firm.

The Master in Legal Practice organized by University of Valladolid aims to ensure that graduates of the course receive the appropriate training which will enable them to successfully complete the assessment examinations for practicing the profession of law and Court Attorney. The training structure of the Master course is based on three basic pillars: the completion of a specific training course in which a set of specific professional competences must be acquired, the development of a period of external work placement carried out with a number of top law firms and the completion of an assessment of professional aptitude.

The Justice, Democracy, and Legal Rights concentration offers a directed, optional program of study for LL.M. students. Students have the opportunity to receive specialized training in the field and select the classes that are most relevant to their areas of expertise. A concentration designation will appear on the transcript, giving students a competitive advantage in the legal employment market. Students retain the ability to elect a few courses outside of their concentration in other areas of interest or to prepare for the bar exam.
