While the 24-credit LLM in Banking & Financial Law can be completed in one year of full-time study, BU Law offers several other enrollment options based on your educational background, professional experience, and English proficiency, and location. With more than 25 courses offered, you can choose from a variety of classes and schedules that best suit your needs and interests. The Banking & Financial Law program offers the same challenging program of LLM studies in an entirely online format, an attractive alternative for domestic and internationally trained attorneys whose jobs preclude them from attending our traditional on-site program option in Boston. The online courses are taught by residential faculty and no distinction is made on a student’s transcript or diploma. The online graduates receive the same transcript and diploma as students in the residential program.

The Two-Year LLM is an intensive LLM program designed to equip ambitious international students and lawyers with the academic, legal, and language skills necessary to succeed in U.S. law school. Through experiencing an innovative blend of legal English, American legal culture and practice, and substantive doctrinal coursework, you will graduate with high competency in both the letter of the law and its application.

The LLM in American Law Program is specifically designed to prepare internationally trained lawyers for the challenge of global practice. In this program, students are fully integrated into BU Law’s JD classes, where they sit side by side with American students being trained in the tradition of US legal education. Students not only learn the substance of US doctrine in virtually any area of interest—intellectual property, international business transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and alternative dispute resolution, to name only a few—they also learn something equally important: how US lawyers are trained to analyze legal questions and advocate on their client's behalf.

The Graduate Tax Program’s online option affords active practitioners a flexible way to earn BU Law’s highly ranked LLM in Taxation degree. Ideal for lawyers whose jobs preclude them from attending BU’s residential program in Boston, the program’s format allows students to begin their course of study in any of three sessions — fall, spring, or summer — and enroll in a variety of specialized tax courses. Students can complete the 24 credits required for the LLM in Taxation degree on a full-time or part-time basis. Full-time students complete the degree in two sessions, while part-time students may complete the degree in as few as four consecutive sessions or over the course of four years, depending on the demands of their schedules.
