The LLM in Transnational and European Commercial Law, Banking Law, and Arbitration/Mediation Program aims to provide a thorough analysis of commercial law, banking law, and alternative dispute resolution within a transnational, EU, and international context.

The University of Johannesburg’s LLM in Banking Law program is designed to provide students with specialist knowledge in aspects of the law that are highly relevant to the banking sector. It is designed to be completed by full-time students within one year and by part-time students over two years.

The LLM in Banking and Finance Law examines contemporary challenges and evolving dynamics in law, regulation, and policy within the banking and finance sectors. You will study a range of specialist units, gaining an in-depth understanding of real-world issues and the opportunity to challenge traditional approaches.

Since conferring our first LLM in Banking & Financial Law in 1984, our program remains the only financial services LLM program in the country with its own faculty and a curriculum designed exclusively for graduate study.

Students seeking the LLM in Banking, Corporate, and Finance Law acquire a sophisticated appreciation of corporate structure, an understanding of the laws relating to capital markets and financial institutions, and genuine insights into the goals and strategies of U.S. executives and business lawyers.

While the 24-credit LLM in Banking & Financial Law can be completed in one year of full-time study, BU Law offers several other enrollment options based on your educational background, professional experience, and English proficiency, and location. With more than 25 courses offered, you can choose from a variety of classes and schedules that best suit your needs and interests. The Banking & Financial Law program offers the same challenging program of LLM studies in an entirely online format, an attractive alternative for domestic and internationally trained attorneys whose jobs preclude them from attending our traditional on-site program option in Boston. The online courses are taught by residential faculty and no distinction is made on a student’s transcript or diploma. The online graduates receive the same transcript and diploma as students in the residential program.

Graduates from Asia holding a first degree in law, business or economics and who have good academic records are eligible to apply to join our LL.M. International Finance program.
