11 Lights and Sound Degree Programs

This is our flagship course, responsible for producing many nationally and internationally successful sound engineers.

Graduates of this course win BAFTAs and multiple other awards every year. Our students have won the student section of the Los Angeles based Golden Reel Awards for best sound 13 times since 1996 (we won it again this year)! Sound Design students train in all aspects of audio post-production, developing the techniques and creative awareness required as dubbing editors, sound designers, and dubbing mixers.

EPAS is a one-year intensive education in the creative potential of sound both of itself and as part of a multimedia practice.

The Film and Sound Design program offers an occupational degree that immerses college students in the world and industry of film and sound design. IPR’s condensed program allows students to earn a multi-skill, multi-functional Occupational Associate of Applied Science Degree in as little as two years. Film and sound design program students learn hands-on, entry-level skills in every aspect of the film business: recording, post-production, and design. Work as a part of a team to produce your own film- from concept and storyboard, to production and editing – you’ll graduate with a portfolio of work to showcase your creativity and launch your career in the exciting Film Industry.

Whether it’s creating a chest-pounding dance mix or a gut-wrenching sound effect for a movie, you will harness the power of sound in artistic, creative ways in George Fox’s audio production concentration of the cinematic arts major.

The Associate of Arts in Theatre Arts a variety of programs of study and experiences suited to the needs of the serious theater student as well as those who wish to include theater as a part of their liberal arts education. With curricula in Acting/Directing, Design/Lighting, Costuming, and Technical Production, the program provides an intensive two-year course of study that prepares Theater Arts majors for transfer to a four-year college or university - ready to do advanced upper-division work Students have the opportunity of working in all phases of production and performance and are encouraged to take on increasing levels of responsibility.

During the Bachelor's Degree, explore acoustic design, microphone techniques, audio electronics, and music production and how this can be applied to mixed media such as television, film, digital design, and games. Collaborating with students on real projects in these same areas will give you a broader context in which to apply your skills and expand your professional network.

Challenge your skills and build your professional body of work in a rigorous, accelerated program. This comprehensive program prepares graduates to secure a position with a major national or regional theatre company, a highly competitive apprenticeship or fellowship, or selection into a prestigious MFA program. This program is ideal for students interested in lighting design, scenic design, stage management, or directing.

This course provides the understanding and skills you need to join the next generation of Lighting & Video programmers, Show Control Systems Engineers & Technical Managers for theatre, live music/events, corporate settings or the film and television industry.

The Light in Performance MA offers a unique opportunity to practically explore current uses and applications of light as a material for performance. Learning happens through a series of experimental workshops in a fully equipped studio theatre, observations/placements, and specialist training with industry partners.
