The FURB Master's Program in Law is aimed at holders of a diploma of higher education in Law or in other courses in the area of ​​Applied Social Sciences and aims to train professionals in the legal area to act as teachers and researchers in undergraduate courses. and post-graduate studies, as advisors, consultants, civil servants of Justice and the State, public managers, entrepreneurs, and trainers of qualified opinions, with a view to consolidating the Democratic Rule of Law and improving legal practices that promote fundamental rights in contemporary international society and, thus, of constitutional policies. Therefore, it is intended to promote the following characteristics: a) General training to act as teachers and researchers in higher education or in research and innovation centers; b) Qualification for conducting research in the different fields of Legal Sciences and in multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary environments; c) Sensitivity to act in areas of law considered a priority in the country and in its regional contexts; d) Ability to create and interpret empirical data on the regional and national context that allow the formulation and analysis of public policies; e) Ability to recognize demands from pressure groups, minorities, socio-environmental issues, and sovereignty, as well as from the market economy and its numerous forms of relationship with the law.

The Postgraduate Law Program (PPGD) began its trajectory in 2013, with the approval of the Master's Degree in Law - concentration area “law and society” - which, reaching grade 4, can plead with CAPES the offer of the Doctorate. On June 6, 2019, the new course proposal was approved. Thus, the Postgraduate Program in Law was consolidated, having as fundamental for research the following questions: a) the positivization of Law and its fulfillment by society; b) the observation of social changes and the perception of how they influence and modify the Law; c) the distance between the positive text and the Brazilian social reality.

The graduation in Law at Ibmec addresses Law in an integral way, encouraging the student to work on the interconnection between its various branches and also its connection with other areas such as Economics and International Relations. The student absorbs the technical knowledge necessary for a professional in the legal field, while being prepared to discuss in depth all the reality that surrounds him.

The master's course in Law at UCP intends to assume the role of promoting an academic policy for the training of teachers and researchers to cover the demand for quality staff in teaching and scientific production in the country and, especially, in Rio de Janeiro, in view of the growing number of undergraduate law courses. The Program was conceived, among other reasons, to supply a set of training and qualification demands for research in the legal area, taking especially into account the absence of such a course in the city of Petrópolis and in the Mountain Region that the encircles.

Law is the science that studies laws and their application in relations between people in society. The analysis of legal texts, Court decisions, called jurisprudence, uses and customs, in addition to the guiding values of social life, is an instrument for citizens to be able to realize all their potential in individual and collective life.

With our ESPM DNA of innovation and entrepreneurship, we created the law degree with a technology vertical and flexible discipline matrix, designed to train creative, digitally fluent professionals, prepared for all areas of this sector and the information society.

The program aims to prepare professionals for the legal practice, while equipping them with technical knowledge, a critical view and social and political consciousness. The program’s curriculum includes a strong humanist base, which combines the need for a dogmatic and practical training and an education concerned with the development of a truly conscious and participatory citizenship. For degree completion, in addition to achieving the number of credits required for mandatory courses and completing a final thesis (TCC), students must obtain 324 class hours of elective courses, 360 hours of internship experience and 360 hours of complementary activities (including research and outreach activities, extracurricular courses and internships, and student representation).

Train professionals graduated in the large area of Law to work in the area of civil proceedings, in a preventive, administrative and judicial manner, using contemporary tools and concepts.

The Master's Program in Law, with an area of ​​concentration in Alterity and Fundamental Rights, has two lines of research, namely: Line A called Bioethics, Alterity and the Social Environment and Line B entitled Public Policies and the Implementation of Fundamental Rights. Fostering otherness as a principle capable of giving all polarities equal rights of expression. (BYINGTON, 2015) is the great paradigm that guides the course. It seeks to promote the training of researchers who absorb the need to produce knowledge capable of overcoming predatory and exploitative attitudes of the environment in which they operate and act with a loving, ecological, democratic, and compassionate vision that we hope can ensure the future of humanity (BYINGTON, 2008).
