Law is taken jointly with Criminology for the three years of this degree which is accredited by the Honorable Society of King’s Inns. We are one of the few universities in Ireland to offer the option of studying law with criminology as part of an accredited law degree. Faculty include leading international experts in the field with research interests in policing, restorative justice, gender, ethnicity, human trafficking, terrorism and mental health.

This degree is jointly accredited by both the legal and accounting professions. Students can avail of exemptions (upon graduation) from CAP 1 examinations from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland, and equivalent examination papers from the ACCA and the CIMA professional accounting bodies. The LLM General is designed to enhance students' legal skills and enrich their knowledge of a variety of legal subjects across a broad spectrum from criminology to competition law, from regulatory crime law to human rights law. It is suited to those looking for an advanced legal education but who do not wish to focus on a single branch of law. The range of choice is designed to facilitate students in developing their own unique profile in combining various branches of the law into which they will develop the deeper knowledge and understanding brought about by postgraduate study. Upon completion candidates will provide added value to their employer and clients, whether in a traditional law firm, as a practicing barrister, in private industry or with governmental agencies. Experts in the relevant areas of law will assist students in developing a deeper understanding of the law on a wide range of specialised and advanced topics.

The BCL is a three-year degree in law combined with one other subject. While the BCL covers all the core modules of law, you cover less law than on the LLB (MH501), giving you more time to develop expertise in another subject. The main advantage is that it allows you to combine the study of law with the study of another discipline.

The LLB (MH501) is a four-year degree almost exclusively in law, allowing you to study law in depth and detail. This innovative programme puts a strong emphasis on the development of verbal and written advocacy skills through applied modules such as legal skills, negotiation and dispute resolution. Students can future-proof their degree with our exciting new modules in Law and Technology in each of years 2 and 3.

The Bachelor of Laws (Honours) in Law (LLB) is a traditional law degree offering a curriculum of core and elective law subjects. The course seeks to impart a sound understanding of law and the intellectual foundation necessary to prepare for a career as a legal professional.

The LLB (Graduate Entry) program is a two year full-time program specifically designed to provide a legal education to graduates in disciplines other than law. Graduates from any discipline other than law may apply and no prior legal knowledge is necessary. Entry is competitive and the minimum entry requirement is a 2nd class honours grade 2 undergraduate degree.

The LLM in International Business Law enables law graduates to further their legal education by gaining a systematic understanding of the critical issues at the forefront of key areas of global trade. The programme affords students a wide range of interesting and engaging modules, with an international focus, aimed at encouraging critical thinking and developing specialised, detailed knowledge and understanding of global business. 

The LLB in Common and Civil Law programme provides an opportunity to obtain a bachelor’s degree in both Common Law (The Irish/UK legal system) and Civil Law (the system used in most mainland European jurisdictions). Graduates can therefore expect to have a wide variety of options open to them upon graduation.
