14 Language Degree Programs in Netherlands

Whenever we use language – whether it’s written, spoken or signed – we’re communicating. How does this work, and how and why does miscommunication occur? How does language fit together and how do we learn to understand each other?

The Undergraduate Foundation Programme is designed to prepare international students who have completed senior secondary education for undergraduate study. All students who successfully complete the UFP are guaranteed placement on a suitable programme of undergraduate study with an OnCampus partner.

Your route to a postgraduate degree at the University of Amsterdam. This programme includes English and up to seven academic subject modules.

The Master's track in European Literature and Interculturality is located at the Department of European Languages and Cultures. This international, interdisciplinary and multilingual environment offers excellent opportunities for research and immerses them in vibrant networks of experts across different European countries and languages. The following languages can be chosen as major languages: French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish and Swedish.

The UPP at OnCampus Amsterdam has been designed with Wittenborg University of Applied Sciences to deliver the Propaedeutic Year 1. This is the initial year of a bachelor's degree programme at a Dutch university of applied sciences. It serves as a foundational stepping stone, designed to introduce students to the core concepts and methodologies of their chosen field of study. This programme includes English and a range of subjects from Economics to Management.

Our English Language and Culture BA programme covers English in all its aspects, from the early middle ages to the present day.

Our two-year Research Master in Natural Language Processing offers rigorous, interdisciplinary training that integrates Linguistics and Computer Science. You will gain strong technical skills in machine learning, language modelling, text processing, and computational semantics, together with a deep understanding of human language, linguistic theory, and experimental research methods.

Prepare for a career teaching English in international secondary schools with an English specialisation in ITESS. You’ll grow into an engaging, inclusive, and culturally sensitive educator with the knowledge, skills and experience needed to teach English effectively, including a broad understanding of language development, literature and culture, and second language acquisition.

In the Russian and Eurasian Studies master's programme our experts devote attention to the most recent developments, currently the war in Ukraine. Several courses will provide context and background about this war.

The MA in Multilingualism offers an excellent combination of knowledge of multilingualism and practical research skills, with easy access to multilingual communities for research. Our degree is focused on career perspectives, and aimed for enterprising minds. You are going to study in a truly international environment, in the wonderful city of Leeuwarden, chosen the European Cultural Capital of 2018.

The MA in English Literature and Culture is an academic humanities degree with a socially relevant focus. We offer you academic excellence with transferable skills, with the resources of a large research university but with small classes (typically 10-15 students), in a friendly ambiance that contributes to our positive student feedback. Our staff has received their doctorates from a mix of Dutch universities and international institutions (Oxford, Cambridge, Toronto, Edinburgh).

The MA/MSc in Linguistics: Natural Language Processing offers a unique combination of theoretical linguistics and computer-science research in a multi-lingual setting. It is in a rapidly evolving area of study with excellent career opportunities, both in industry and academia. The degree is also part of the Erasmus Mundus Master's Program.

The MA in Language and Cognition is linked to the excellent, multidisciplinary research carried out at the Center for Language and Cognition Groningen (CLCG) and the Groningen Research School for Behavioural and Cognitive Neuroscience (BCN). Our lecturers are internationally recognized as experts in their fields, and we offer a research internship (20 ECTS) in the first semester of the second year, which gives you the opportunity to work with big names in your field of interest.
