11 Languages and Linguistics Degree Programs in Finland

The Master's Degree Program in Finnish and its Languages is intended for non-native speakers of Finnish and other Finno-Ugric languages who have completed their bachelor's degrees abroad or in Finland.

In the Master’s Programme in English Studies at the University of Helsinki, you develop your expertise in areas that are often separated in other programmes: English language and linguistics, literature in English and the teaching of English. You can take courses in all three areas or just focus on one of them.

In the Master's Programme in Linguistic Diversity and Digital Humanities (Previously: Linguistic Diversity in the Digital Age), you may deepen your understanding of the nature and diversity of human language and the theoretical and digital tools for working with language and speech.

A two-year (120 ECTS) Master’s major in Speech and Language Technology at Aalto University. The programme combines machine learning and speech/signal processing to build practical systems such as predictive text, automated assistants and subtitle generation. Taught in English, it emphasises strong theoretical foundations, advanced programming, data analysis and hands‑on project work.

The programme prepares students for careers involving significant intercultural contact. Globalization and the growing importance of communication and collaboration guarantee a demand for experts looking into issues of language, globalization and intercultural communication.

TRANSMED accepts students from suitable educational backgrounds, such as life sciences and natural sciences, engineering, psychology etc. Students’ diverse backgrounds together with their TRANSMED studies give them a unique skill set for future careers. The Master in Translational Medicine curriculum is organized in close collaboration with researchers and units in the Faculty of Medicine and the Helsinki University Hospital, culminating in clinical rounds in the Helsinki University Hospital.

The programme prepares highly competent and internationally oriented educators to raise the quality of education in the diversifying contexts of the globalised world. Students will gain a broad understanding of the field of education with a particular awareness of international issues in education.

This program, taught entirely in English and aimed at international applicants, seeks to provide an opportunity to study English from a variety of literary and linguistic perspectives. The degree consists of coursework and a research thesis.
