The Ph.D. graduate in Romance languages is a highly qualified specialist trained to conduct research work in his/her field (the linguistics and philology of one or more Romance languages). He/she is able to interpret these languages in a qualified manner, applying a synchronic or diachronic approach and utilizing modern linguistic methods and research procedures.

Computational linguistics is an interdisciplinary scientific field involving mathematics (including topics such as discrete mathematics, statistics, and probability), computer science (e.g. algorithmization, machine learning, artificial intelligence), and classical linguistics (e.g. morphology, syntax, language typology). Computational linguistics investigates language from a formal point of view, and it aims at developing methods that could be used in software applications in the field of Natural Language Processing, in which languages in their spoken or written form are handled. The program does not contain specializations.

The graduate of Germanic and Nordic Languages and Literatures is a highly educated expert who is qualified for research in his/her field, i. e., in Germanic and Nordic linguistics or literature. He/she is ready for scholarly work and further growth in the academic area. He/she is able to manage language and literary problems where language skills and philological work are required, or where the theory and history of individual literature in all its linguistic and historical-cultural contexts are needed.

Graduates have a sound grounding in research methods in the humanities, particularly in the study of relationships between languages/cultures; knowledge of information sources and the ability to assess their relevance to the pair of languages/cultures of their choice; a thorough grounding in the theoretical concepts of translation and interpreting and the ability to apply them to the analysis of the translation / interpreting market and procedures. They are equipped to produce and edit extensive scientific texts and to evaluate the quality of writings in translation and interpreting studies. They are capable of theoretical reflection on particular products/situations related to translation studies within their linguistic, cultural, historical and social contexts, and are able to present their findings to the academic communities.

The aim of the study program “Computer Science – Language Technologies and Computational Linguistics” is to get the graduates ready for research in the area of natural language processing and the development of applications dealing with both written and spoken language. Examples of such applications are systems of information retrieval, information extraction and summarization, machine translation, text analytics, grammar checking, automatic speech recognition, spoken dialogue systems, and speech synthesis. The emphasis is put on a deep understanding of formal mathematical and algorithmic foundations and their practical applicability in natural language processing tasks. Students of the program have the possibility to focus either on theoretical aspects of formal description of natural languages or on the technology-oriented side (state-of-the-art methods in statistics, machine learning, and deep learning) for language data processing.

The General Linguistics Ph.D. graduate is able to analyze in detail the variable and constant elements of language structure and function, both synchronically and diachronically. S/he understands the structure of linguistic theories, the way in which they are related, and also the empirical method of confirming or refuting them. S/he has an insight into the pragmatic and social context of language communication.

Joint program with the Slavic Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, a public scientific institution. Training takes place in Russian.

Graduates have a sound knowledge of current trends in the field and are able to adopt a creative approach to the relevant source material. Graduates are equipped to work with original Latin documents, i.e. literary and diplomatic manuscripts, incunabula, paleotypes and old prints, being able to interpret and prepare them for publication and translation. Having been trained in philology and literary history and acquired the foundations of relevant historical disciplines (codicology, palaeography, diplomatic) and of cultural history, graduates are equipped to place mediaeval and early modern works into the context of their time and also to interpret them as a factor influencing the culture and society of subsequent eras.

University study program Music Education with a focus on education prepares students in the theoretical and practical specialization of music pedagogy and provides basic knowledge for a job in education. The study combines three components of Middle school / Junior High school / Secondary school / High school / Junior High school / Senior High school teacher training: subject training, general and subject training didactics, and teacher propaedeutics (pedagogical-psychological training). The obligatory basis of the study consists of music-theoretical components of education: music theory, harmony, counterpoint, musical forms, organology, history of music, etc. Improving musical skills is provided by vocal and instrumental preparation, intonation and auditory analysis, choral conducting. Everything is focused on the work of a lecturer, assistant teacher, educator, cultural assistant, etc. The next part is the didactics of music education, listening, and assistant practice at school. These activities prepare the graduate for the next level of study - a master's degree in music education. The study program in the major plan respects the balance of subject, didactic and pedagogical-psychological components according to the standards of teacher training of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic. Pedagogical-psychological preparation includes subjects of pedagogy, psychology, and special pedagogy, including pedagogical-psychological practice and aims to prepare for the subsequent master's study of teaching. A part of the study program major is a bachelor's thesis. By majoring in English with a focus on education, the students will acquire substantial expertise in the areas of linguistics (with a particular emphasis on the theory of linguistic disciplines and their practical application), literature is written in English, whereby, by studying various literary disciplines, the students will also learn how to analyze and interpret a wide range of literary texts. The practical language part of the curriculum will boost the students’ language skills so that by the time of graduation they will have reached the C1-C2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. By successfully majoring in this BA program, the students will qualify to be admitted to the magisterial follow-up program primed for secondary school teachers.

Theoretical subjects – construction and history of instrument, instrumental literature. Graduates should be prepared for getting a job in educational institutions for musical activities of children, in music schools, in cultural institutions, museums, etc. For teaching qualification in basic and high schools, it is necessary to continue in Master's program.

The focus in the study program is also put on knowledge and skills in the field of social education, social work, and the methodology of these phenomena. Students have their teaching practice in schools, school facilities; but also, in social service facilities.
