Our international bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and Literary Studies, the first of its kind in Belgium, is designed to prepare you for the globalized labour market where multilingualism, world citizenship, and international expertise are becoming increasingly important.

What makes more sense than studying a Multilingual Master in the most prominent hub of multiculturalism in Europe? Take courses in linguistics and literary studies in up to nine different languages, specialise in a specific language-related scientific discipline and in one or two specific languages.

The Master of English Linguistics and Literature will expand your knowledge of the English language, its structure and history, its literature and its cultural embedding. Research-based teaching will allow you to benefit from the expertise of KU Leuven’s internationally renowned scholars in English linguistics and literature. You will be encouraged to develop your communication and research skills through seminars and your personal master’s thesis. The optional component of the programme allows you to additionally study linguistics and literature from a broader European perspective.

Taught in English by specialists in the field, this programme combines the study of English linguistics with that of literature in English.

The Master in French Language and Literature will perfect your skills in French and will give you the opportunity to develop an analytical framework in French linguistics and literature. You will benefit from the teaching of recognized specialists, who will guide you in their field of expertise towards the development of a personal research project.

In this English-taught Master's programme, you will learn how to develop and implement multilingual communication from a global and multicultural perspective in companies and organisations. The focus is on communication in cross-cultural settings: you will discover how communication runs between cultures and in organisations harbouring several cultures. You will also become an expert in a wide range of communicative genres in English, such as debating, negotiating and handling press relations.

The first cycle is devoted to the in-depth study of two foreign languages to be chosen from among 9 languages: German, English, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Turkish and Russian (Dutch and Russian cannot be combined; l (Arabic, Chinese and Turkish must be combined with English).

The second cycle will be mainly devoted to specific training in translation. It will discuss, starting from two foreign languages and into French, various types of translation representative of the professional landscape.

The strength of our Magellan programme resides in the fact that it combines three key features: daring to speak French, (the lessons focus, for the most part, on oral practice and communication), being efficient (preparing for studies, conducting research or working in French) and discovering our culture (thanks to cultural visits and meeting people).

The « Alizé » programme promotes maximum efficiency in mastering French thanks to its flexible nature and the ready way it adapts to your objectives. You can register for a pack of several modules or begin with a single module and then add supplementary sessions until you have reached your objectives.

The purpose of the interpretation courses is to train conference interpreters who can work in the main international institutions. The faculty is mainly composed of conference interpreters.
