Due to the University’s unique location in the Italian-speaking world, the Italian Studies major at Franklin is designed, first and foremost, to cultivate students’ abilities to communicate, interact and critically engage with the local culture. To do this, students seeking a bachelor's degree in Italian Studies complete a three-year sequence of language courses, the principal goal of which is the acquisition of advanced competency in Italian speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.

Italian Studies is the Second Cycle Degree program based on the newest results of cultural analysis developed by the University of Bologna.

At the University of Pécs, Faculty of Letters and Philosophy, you can study Italian Language and Literature as an independent course in BA in Romance Philology and Cultures (Specialization in Italian Studies) Filologia romanza e cultura neolatina BA (Specializzazione in studi italiani) of study. Graduates will develop specific knowledge and skills through theory and practice to start a profitable working application in the field of Italian culture and language with the development of various basic skills, didactic research, international development, and special educational needs. In addition to deepening the aforementioned fields, particular attention must also be paid to interdisciplinarity. Furthermore, the course gives candidates the opportunity to access fields of study and work ranging from tourism to the various levels and modalities of the mass media, information, and communication, as well as moving competently in the field of cultural heritage and the vast universe of Italian culture spread throughout the world.

The Foundation Year is a nine-month, full immersion preparatory course in Italian for international students willing to enroll in a BA taught in Italian at #UNIPAVIA. The Foundation Year is aimed at students who do not meet the minimum requirement – 12 years of schooling – to access the Italian higher education system.

The Foundation Course (FC) is a 2-semester study program that allows students with less than 12 years of schooling to fulfil the prerequisites for pursuing a bachelor’s program in LUM and any Italian University. In particular, it is aimed at students. The course is also intended for those who wish to improve their background and linguistic skills even if they have a minimum of 12 years of schooling.

The Italian Studies program offers the opportunity to study Italian language and culture as well as courses in Italian literature, art, and cinema. Language classes are taught in a full-immersion classroom, where you will work toward gaining proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening while learning about the rich complexity of Italian culture. At Sewanee, your Italian studies will be excellent preparation for studying abroad or traveling in Italy, an experience steeped in food, fashion, design, and art.

The Master in Science, Philosophy and Theology of Religions was activated in 2006 at the FTL as part of the Re.Te Institute. (Religions and Theology), with the aim of training in the knowledge of religions and interreligious dialogue in an increasingly multicultural world. Since 2014, thanks to the collaboration with the USI eLearning Lab (eLab), the Master has also been activated in an online formula. Today this is the only available way of using its courses.

The second level degree or Master of Arts in Comparative Canon and Ecclesiastical Law, issued from the FTL-USI, it stands out for the originality of the proposals compared to study courses of other universities, above all for the attention given to theological training in a comparative perspective.

The Italian Studies Program at Trinity College offers innovative courses in Italian and in English about the language, culture, and civilization of Italy. Among them are Mythmaking the Italian Nation, Italian Fascism and Anti-Fascism, Otherness in Italian Cinema, Italian Theater as a Way of Life, Italian Design and Culture in a Global Perspective, Reading the Italian Landscape and Food in Italian History, Society, and Art. We also offer courses at all levels of language learning, as well as survey courses in Italian literature. Indeed, the study of language is the launching pad for a more in-depth analysis of Italy’s great literary and cultural tradition.

With a teaching staff of twenty and almost 400 students per semester, Italian is now one of the top-studied languages at Notre Dame. The Italian Studies Program offers undergraduates eight options: a Major with two tracks, each with a possible Honors Track, a Supplementary Major with two tracks, and a Minor.

Students majoring in French and Francophone Studies take classes in language, literary and visual arts, and culture, including history, philosophy, and science—all conducted in French. Classes are small, allowing for individual attention and close collaboration with your peers and professors. Extend your classroom experience by joining the French Club, dining with your classmates at the French table, and studying abroad, a requirement for all French and Francophone Studies majors.

The M.A. program in Italian Studies intends to provide students with a broad knowledge of Italian culture from a literary, linguistic, and historical perspective; to offer them a solid grasp of major trends in critical and cultural theories and train them to apply these approaches to specific expressions of Italian culture; to provide students with the methodology and research skills to develop interdisciplinary projects in their courses and in their Master’s theses; to help students obtain high proficiency in oral and written Italian language, both through core and elective courses on campus and through one semester’s matriculation at an Italian university; to help each student acquire or enhance expressive competencies in the domain of Italian culture that he/she intends to select for his/her M.A. specialization.

The Italian Department at Scripps College, the only one at the Claremont Colleges, offers a full range of courses for students, providing a sequence of lower division classes which develop speaking, writing and reading skills, as well as introduce students to Italian literature and culture. Following these introductory courses, students are able to take a number of upper division classes in various areas of literature and about a number of topics. Italian courses are complemented and enriched by the presence of an Italian assistant who lives on campus and facilitates Italian conversation in a number of activities. Students also have the opportunity to study in Italy, in places like Milan, Rome, Florence, or Parma.
