Master Design

In the Master of Arts in Design, designers and personalities from design-related areas develop their mastery and achieve professional excellence. The focus of the master's program is the research-oriented working and thinking along the own design project. The combination of high individual responsibility, reflexive and interdisciplinary thinking, an own design attitude as well as entrepreneurial action play as crucial a role in the qualification for the further career steps as the ability to connect to international practice or higher education.

The study is based on a research-oriented model in which the students focus on developing their individual master project to maturity over a period of three semesters. Results are future-oriented design solutions as well as communicable knowledge and new methods.

The master's program at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste covers six areas:

Knowledge Visualization: Creation and transfer of knowledge through image and visualization. Translating complex information into a visual language and conveying knowledge through images.

Game Design: Conception and design of games, serious games, Ludic Game Art as well as collaborative, virtual worlds.

Interaction Design: Development of concepts and systems in the field of embodied interaction, interactive experience and reactive material.

Visual Communication: development of holistic appearances, visual identities and brands, editorial design. Systematic exploration through design exploration and theoretical reflection.

Product Design: Development of products and concepts for sports, mobility and social design. Inclusion of innovations, trends, production, marketing, materials as well as social and geographical issues.

Trends & Identity: Identification, visualization and implementation of cultural and socio-economic developments in strategic design concepts.
