Key Summary

About: The Dental Assisting Program offers students the skills and knowledge to assist dentists in various clinical and administrative tasks. The curriculum covers topics such as patient care, dental radiography, and infection control. This program prepares graduates for certification exams and equips them with practical experience in real-world settings.
Career Outcomes: Graduates can pursue careers as dental assistants in various healthcare settings, including dental offices and clinics. Other potential roles may include positions in dental hygiene education or further specialization within the dental field.

The one-year certificate program includes classes in dental science, dental x-rays, office management, materials and labour procedures, and working with patients who have serious health problems. Many classes involve both lectures and lab hours. Clinical training on campus and in dentistsโ€™ offices give students real work experience and make graduates attractive job candidates. Volunteer State Community College has clinical agreements with dozens of dental practitioners throughout Middle Tennessee. By the time students finish the program, theyโ€™ll have had nearly 400 hours of clinical work.
