Key Summary
Do you ever wonder how you can design and evolve the software systems we use in servers, laptops, smartphones, and wearables? How an organisation can make effective use of the sheer amount of data and derive actionable insights? Or how you can model, extract, and implement the business processes that make organisations work?
Successfully aligning ICT with business processes
Organisations often run into problems when implementing new ICT systems. It is vital for them to rely on professionals who not only know technologies but are also able to implement them in an organisation. Both technological and organisational insights are indispensable for successfully aligning ICT with business processes.
Combines information and computing science
The Business Informatics programme focuses on the design and use of theories, methods, techniques, and tools from information and computing sciences, and on the application of these in business and organisational domains. This requires a holistic approach that considers the organisation as a whole to ensure that business and ICT are properly aligned.
The programme is built around 3 specialized tracks, each focussing on a different area of Business Informatics. At the start of the programme, you are encouraged to select 1 track to determine the focus of your programme. The curriculum then consists of a 75 EC course part, followed by a 45 EC research part in year 2.

Secondary electives
These electives can be chosen more liberally to give your programme a personal flavour. You have room for 3 courses or you can also use this elective space to do a profile.
Profiles (optional)
In order to expand the thematic range of your Master's programme, you can also choose to do a profile in your (elective) course part. A profile is a coherent set of courses of 30 EC on a single theme that is usually not a standard part of the programme. Within this Master's you can choose from the following profiles:

Academic careers
Your degree will allow you to pursue an academic career by continuing your education as a PhD student. The department also provides more information about doing a PhD. PhD candidates are in part supervised through graduate school.

You are ready to integrate human, organizational, and technical skills in real-life contexts and will have no problem finding a suitable job, such as:

- Research represents a large part of the programme. When writing your master’s thesis, you will have an opportunity to conduct in-depth research at Utrecht University or within an external organisation for a period of eight months.
- The lecturers have a large network of collaborating organizations, which can be supportive when establishing your own professional network while studying as well as after graduation.
