External practices

Work placements are an obligatory part of the Masters. They are designed to give the student real-world experience in a language-based company or institutional service where they can apply and extend the skills they have learned.

The work placements are in the second semester and are of variable duration. In all, each student should complete the placement of 60 hours.

We have signed work-placement agreements with translation companies in Tarragona, Reus, and Barcelona, and with the various university services that require expertise in foreign languages. In principle, the work is unpaid and the student receives detailed feedback from the employers.

Students are also invited to arrange work placements outside of Spain, although they must ensure that all the appropriate agreements are signed prior to the actual placement. In the past, we have had such arrangements with translation companies in the United Kingdom, India, and Germany.
