Introduction

The Doctorate in Pharmacy (Pharm D.) is a level 8 degree offered by the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Malta, Malta, in collaboration with the College of Pharmacy at the University of Illinois in Chicago (UIC), USA. The Department of Pharmacy at the University of Malta enjoys a long-standing history of experience in clinical pharmacy education and research while the College of Pharmacy at the University of Illinois in Chicago ranks among the top colleges of pharmacy in the USA. This course is unique in that it combines the development and application of advanced clinical pharmacy skills with contextual research. Taught study-units are delivered jointly by both Universities.

Academic Degree

Students who successfully complete the programme are awarded the Doctorate in Pharmacy (Pharm D.) from the University of Malta.

Candidates who complete successfully 90 ECTS and do not wish to proceed further are awarded a Master degree in Advanced clinical pharmacy from the University of Malta.

In addition to the taught component which is the same as that for the Master in Advanced Clinical Pharmacy, Pharm. D. students are expected to undertake a Doctoral Research Dissertation and an Advanced Experiential as outlined in the programme of study.

This course will prepare graduates who are able to deliver a significant contribution to pharmacy practice and policies in clinical pharmacy and applied areas. These graduates will have the potential to lead the direction of new developments in the pharmaceutical profession and provide a significant impact in their respective field.
