    About : The B.A. in Communicating Arts with a concentration in Theatre and Digital Filmmaking prepares students for creative careers in the performing arts and digital media. This program emphasizes practical experience in theatre production and film making, along with critical analysis of media texts. Students will engage in hands-on projects, gaining skills in various aspects of production and storytelling.
    Career Outcomes : Graduates can pursue diverse roles such as theatre directors, film editors, screenwriters, and producers. They may also find opportunities in film production companies, theatre organizations, and media industries. This degree equips students with the skills needed to thrive in a competitive creative landscape.

The Theatre and Digital Filmmaking Concentration provides students with theory, techniques, and hands-on experience in theatre and digital film production. Coursework offers students multiple opportunities to perform, create and collaborate in theatre productions and on digital video projects. Topics include but are not limited to:

  • Acting for stage and screen
  • Digital filmmaking, including both fiction and documentary production
  • Writing for stage and screen
  • Stage and screen history and criticism
  • Production management for stage and screen
  • Production design for stage and screen
  • Digital audio recording and production

Students will have access to the newly renovated media lab and equipment room for video production. Additionally, UW-Superior offers two theatres (a proscenium theatre and a flexible/experimental theatre), along with scene and costume shops. Students may also use the on-campus radio station, 91.3 FM KUWS Superior, for sound recording purposes.

  • You can gain experience through a variety of campus organizations such as the Yellowjacket Activities Crew, University Advancement and the student newspaper.
  • Holden Fine and Applied Arts Center houses two theatres, a scene workshop, a television studio and media lab and studios for the Wisconsin Public Radio station (KUWS 91.3).
  • Study at other institutions may qualify as credit toward the Communicating Arts degree.
  • You can earn possible credit for life learning and work experience by testing or portfolio examination.
