Key Summary
About: The Master of Environmental and Energy Management at the University of Twente trains you to manage socio-technical change in environment, energy and water domains. It blends technology, engineering, behavioral and social sciences to tackle climate change, pollution, ecosystem loss and inequality. You choose one of three specialisations: Energy Management, Environmental Management or Water Management, while developing cross-domain expertise. The programme emphasizes systems thinking, governance, resilience and practice through a case study project and a master’s thesis in the second semester.
Career Outcomes: You’ll be prepared for sustainability roles in industry, government and NGOs: sustainability consultant, energy manager, policy advisor.

Making the world more resilient and sustainable is an urgent, yet complex task. Our global community is struggling with climate change, pollution and degradation of ecosystems, and increasing economic and social inequality. What does it take to organise, manage, and lead socio-technical change towards solving these global challenges? How can we keep our economy viable without exceeding the carrying capacity of ecosystems and infrastructures? That’s what the Master’s in Environmental & Energy Management (MEEM) is all about.
Choose a specialisation
Within MEEM, you get to focus on a specific domain of sustainability, by choosing one of the three specialisations. Your choice determines which domain you will focus on during the case study project and master’s thesis in your second semester.Whichever specialisation you choose: you will also develop solid expertise in the areas of the other specialisations as well, as these are highly interconnected.
