Introduction
The degree course in Geology aims to provide students with the basic elements for the study of the structure, physical and chemical properties and evolution of our planet with tools ranging from direct investigations on the ground and in the laboratory to the most advanced methods in the sector remote sensing, geophysics, petrophysics and geochemistry.Β Starting from a solid preparation in the basic subjects (mathematics, physics and chemistry), students acquire theoretical and practical knowledge for carrying out basic professional and scientific activities in the Earth sciences sector.Β The degree course in Geology dedicates ample space to experimental training activities, in the laboratory and on the field, in order to provide a broad base of application skills that facilitates possible entry into the world of work at the end of the first level course .Β The student is introduced to the study of current geological conditions, to then tackle the reconstruction of complex processes, such as the formation of basins, the deposition of sedimentary sequences, the deformations of the earth's crust.Β Basic knowledge is also provided in the field of georesources and the study and prevention of natural risks.Β The courses in the specifically geological sector include the state of the art of the main disciplines of Earth sciences, including advanced non-invasive diagnostic methods (geophysics, remote sensing techniques);Β geochemical and mineralogical-petrographic techniques for the study of geological materials;Β paleontological-stratigraphic techniques for the temporal study of sedimentary successions;Β numerical techniques for the study of evolutionary models of the subsoil and surface of our planet.Β Important applications of the skills acquired during the course are also found, among many, in the sectors of engineering, recent evolution from a climatic point of view, fluid georesources (water, hydrocarbons), the environment and natural risks .Β Graduates of the class will possess knowledge suitable for carrying out professional activities in various occupational fields, also contributing to activities such as: basic geological mapping;Β detection of geological hazards;Β geological risk analysis, prevention and emergency intervention for safety purposes;Β geognostic investigations and subsoil exploration with direct investigations, mechanical methods and geophysical methods;Β procurement of georesources, including water;Β evaluation and prevention of degradation of cultural and environmental assets;Β analysis and certification of geological materials;Β environmental impact assessment;Β geodetic and topographic surveys,Β oceanographic and atmospheric;Β execution of geotechnical laboratory tests and analyses;Β identification of sites of geological and paleontological interest for the purpose of their cultural valorisation.Β These skills may find application in public administrations, private institutions, businesses and professional firms.Β This structure of the degree course was designed in accordance with the syllabus produced by the National College of Presidents of the Degree Course in Earth Sciences, in order to guarantee students the recognition of the path at a national level and simplify any possible transfer or access procedures to masterful paths.
