Introduction
The School of Geography, Earth Science, and Environment (SGESE) offers the Bachelor of Arts (Environmental Management) along with other programmes, to provide an integrated understanding of the Earth, its biophysical environment and the people who inhabit it. This is an exciting time for those involved in these fields. The consequences of environmental change extend to the remotest corners of the Earth and have an impact on all its inhabitants. The links between human activity and the natural environment are stronger than at any time in history. And the spatial scale has been thrust to the forefront of environmental investigation. In such a context, those with an understanding of the behaviour of the physical environment, human interaction with that environment, and the capacity to understand the operation of the global system at synoptic scales and beyond the constraints of traditional disciplines are in high demand.
The location of The University of the South Pacific within the worldโs greatest ocean offers a unique opportunity for work in some of the most stunning environments on Earth. The nations of the Pacific and its rim are set to dictate global destiny in the 21st century. We believe that the School of Geography, Earth Science and Environment is ideally placed to tackle the resultant economic, social and environmental issues and to answer the questions of the Pacific Century.
The Bachelor of Arts - Prescribed Programme is a three-year programme comprising twenty-four courses; of which eight courses are at 100-level, eight courses at 200-level, and eight courses at 300-level. There is one interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts programme that does not follow the usual programme requirements for major and minor disciplines but instead has a prescribed set of courses, across discipline boundaries.
Students must focus on one of the two pathways: the Environment and Management or the Environment and Society pathway.
