Introduction
The Faculty of Health Sciences of the Universidad del Istmo and the Institute for Research and Education of Human Genetic and Metabolic Diseases –INVEGEM– have signed a Specific Agreement for Scientific-Technological Collaboration in which they recognize the importance of Education as a strategy that allows strengthening the professional performance skills of those who develop in the different disciplines of the health sciences.
The purpose of this Master's is that the participants, upon completion, are able to understand the genetic component of diseases in humans and apply molecular techniques for diagnosis, prognosis, monitoring, and selection of therapy. It is intended that this program have a positive impact at the national and regional level, by promoting the updating of knowledge in human genetics of professionals related to health.
It should be noted that currently, education and training in this area at the master's or doctoral level in Guatemala and in the Central American region is scarce, which is why there is a lack of an adequate number of professionals specialized in the area of human genetics.
