Key Summary
Why study here?
Come and study at one of the best-performing arts universities in the world. You will get a wonderful opportunity to play in a symphony orchestra from the very first year of your studies. The Orchestra Academy of the Helsinki Music Centre and the close-knit cooperation between professional orchestras allow you to collect hands-on work experience. You will get to network with current and future top musicians already as a student.
Content and objective of the program
This program is a combined 3-year Bachelor's and 2.5-year Master's degree. You can choose French horn, trumpet, trombone, baritone horn, or tuba as your major subject.
During the three-year bachelor’s studies, you will study chamber music, music perception, music history, pedagogy, and languages, and you will also be able to include optional and minor studies in your schedule. Performance and audition coaching and general training in skills needed as a professional are part of the studies in the program.
You will receive 90 minutes of individual instruction per week. In addition to the lessons with your teacher, you can also regularly attend master classes taught by visiting teachers.
Teachers
Our teachers are some of the best experts in their respective fields. In addition to the permanent teaching staff, the program welcomes international top experts as guests on a regular basis.
Graduates from the Sibelius Academy know the essential repertoire, styles, techniques, and interpretations of their respective instruments as well as the key orchestra repertoire of Western art music. They work as soloists or versatile chamber and orchestra musicians and have acquired at least the basic pedagogical competence.
