Introduction
Information technology plays a key role in today's globally competitive business environment from increasing efficiency to fueling innovation. A degree in Business Information Technology provides students with a diverse set of technological skills to be a part of the solution.
Students study Web and mobile technologies and their applications for businesses, create and manage databases based on business requirements and utilize several technological solutions that support business strategies and objectives. This is in addition to the College of Business core courses, where students study business skills in the fields of management, marketing, economics, accounting, finance, and business analytics.
The program features an experiential learning approach, where students use contemporary software through the University’s membership in several academic alliances such as SAP, the world leader in enterprise systems, and Microsoft Corporation, and participate in real-world projects analyzing the technology needs of businesses to improve performance.

Internationally Recognized Program
The Sykes College of Business is accredited at the undergraduate and graduate levels by AACSB International (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), an honor held by only six percent of business schools worldwide. All UT students and alumni have free, lifetime access to a variety of tools and networks to advance their careers. The Office of Career Services offers individual coaching, résumé critiques, mock interviews, networking events, and workshops designed to help students boost their competitive advantage.
Networking and Leadership
BIT majors are encouraged to participate in the activities of local IT professional groups such as the Tampa Bay Technology Leadership Association (TBTLA). Students are invited to attend meetings and give presentations. One part of TBTLA’s mission is mentorship, with UT students as the primary focus. This provides students with a contemporary view of the field from the perspective of local IT executives and a regular series of networking opportunities.
Leadership experience can be enhanced through participation in campus organizations such as the UT Technology Club, which hosts speakers from leading technology employers like Cisco and Tech Data.
In addition, some students are invited to join Alpha Iota Mu, a national information systems honor society, and/or Beta Gamma Sigma, a national business honor society for AACSB-accredited schools. Membership in BGS is the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive.
