Introduction
The B.S. in mathematics focuses on the most significant branches of mathematics, including real analysis, abstract algebra, and finite mathematics, and provides a program that gives students a balanced view of pure and applied aspects of modern mathematics. Topics of study include visual basic, calculus, higher mathematics, differential equations, discrete math, linear algebra, probability, mathematical statistics, and complex analysis.

Career Opportunities
Graduates of the UT mathematics program work in fields such as business analysis, computer science, economics, education, engineering, environmental studies, financial services, insurance, marketing research, and law. They are also employed in teaching and research on all levels of the physical, biological, social, and behavioral sciences. Mathematicians analyze data and apply mathematical and statistical techniques to help solve problems in business, health care, industry, government, and other fields.
An undergraduate degree in mathematics from UT also provides excellent preparation for graduate school. Recent graduates have continued their education in programs at Ohio State University, the University of Toledo, and the University of South Florida, to name a few.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in math occupations is projected to grow 28 percent by 2026 — much faster than the average for all occupations. Growth is predicted as businesses and government agencies continue to emphasize the use of big data, which math occupations can analyze. Math occupations had a median annual wage of $86,700 in 2018.
