As a journalism major at UT, you'll be inundated with opportunities to tell important stories through print, broadcast, and online media. The Bachelor of Arts in Journalism degree provides students with a wide array of news writing, reporting, editing, and multimedia skills, as well as an understanding of journalism history, ethics, and legal principles.
Located in the 13th largest media market in the country, UT provides opportunities for students to compete for prestigious internships at Pulitzer-winning newspapers and nationally admired broadcast outlets. Local websites routinely ask UT students to write about Tampa Bay’s exploding arts and culture scene. Additionally, with a range of professional sports teams in the area, it’s not uncommon for UT students to cover Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Lightning, or Rays games for class assignments. But our hard-working students don’t limit themselves to local media — they also write for national outlets such as USA Today.
New journalism students will be joining a dynamic program with student-run media outlets across multiple platforms: Web, radio, television, and print. The Minaret, UT’s student newspaper, has a legacy of award-winning journalism, with accolades from the Florida College Press Association, the Associated College Press, and the Society of Professional Journalists. Students also eagerly anticipate The Minaret’s glossy magazines printed every semester.
