What you’ll study
The Bachelor of Nursing (Advanced Studies) is an undergraduate coursework degree that will prepare you for professional practice as a registered nurse. The advanced studies component of this course focuses on cultivating skills in leadership and decision-making while offering a better understanding of the international health landscape. The course is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council and graduates will be eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia on completion.
You will study core units in nursing practice and its contexts, and health, development and assessment. These include studies in child and adolescent health and care, ageing health and care, and understanding experiences of illness. In this course, you will complete 880 hours of clinical placements in healthcare facilities monitored or operated by the NSW Department of Health.
Professional practice
Clinical experience makes up a key part of the course, with all students required to undertake 880 hours of clinical placements in healthcare facilities monitored or operated by the NSW Department of Health throughout the degree.
Placements will give students hands-on nursing practice in a variety of healthcare settings including:
- emergency departments
- intensive care units
- paediatric units
- mental health facilities
- community health centres.
Students also have the opportunity to undertake overseas clinical placements, exploring nursing within the context of other cultures and languages.

This course requires you to complete the following number of work hours:
