    Library

    At our library, you’ll have access to a wealth of resources designed to support your academic journey and foster your intellectual growth. With over 550,000 printed books and periodicals, 175,000 e-books, and 800 subscriptions to printed magazines and newspapers, you’ll find everything you need to deepen your knowledge. Additionally, you’ll have access to 70,000 licensed electronic journals, offering a vast array of up-to-date research material at your fingertips.

    Our library provides 550 study spaces, as well as dedicated PCs for research, alongside multifunctional devices for printing, copying, and scanning. Whether you’re working on an individual project or collaborating with peers, you’ll find an environment that supports your learning.

    Our friendly and knowledgeable library staff are always available to assist you with literature searches and information gathering, ensuring that you can make the most of the resources available to you.

    SQUARE

    Serendipity - when chance encounters inspire great ideas - has been given the perfect space: SQUARE. It is a popular meeting place, thinking space and innovation lab all in one. There, entirely new ways of learning and interacting provide unprecedented opportunities for co-creation.

    SQUARE is where the students meet public figures and faculty members, as well as members of the general public, to discuss current issues and initiate solutions for the future or get directly involved in their development. In a modern atmosphere with high-quality equipment and supported by the latest technology, meeting others has never been so exciting, and venturing new beginnings has never been so easy.

    On campus

    Looking more like a park, our Rosenberg campus in St.Gallen offers not only ideal conditions for studying in beautiful surroundings, but also a stunning view of the city. The distances between the individual areas are short, and the modern infrastructure gives students the best possible support in their learning. The university campus is more than just a place of education - it is a place to meet, a place of inspiration, and art. There, works of art by Giacometti, Richter, Miró and Penalba complement buildings created by architects Walter M. Förderer and Bruno Gerosa.

    In the city

    St.Gallen has a lot to offer its approximately 80,000 inhabitants: a historically important Old Town, numerous shops, street cafés and restaurants, bars and clubs. The monastery quarter with the Baroque cathedral and the abbey library has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

    Situated between the Alps and Lake Constance, St.Gallen also provides ideal conditions for a wide range of leisure and sports activities in the surrounding area. The natural swimming pools "Drei Weiheren" are within walking distance of the city centre.

    Art and culture

    An impressive cultural programme awaits you in St.Gallen. The city plays host to one of Switzerland's biggest open-air festivals, the performances of the CityTheatre and the Tonhalle, the St.Galler Festspiele - a classcial music event held every summer - and numerous exhibitions in museums and private galleries. The ST.Gallen Art Museum and the Kunsthalle Sankt Gallen conncet the city with the international art scene.

    Catering options

    The university restaurant offers a wide selection of tasty cold and warm menus over lunch, which vary in price. At the cold and warm buffet you can also put together your own individual meal or choose a menu. Starting at CHF 6.20, you can get a warm meal. The buffet caters to all diets.

    There are other catering facilities, which offer a range of pastries, cakes, sandwiches and other snacks, as well as a variety of hot and cold drinks throughout the day.

    Sport facilities

    To keep your body and mind in balance, Unisport offers you a wide range of sports at its own and third-party sports facilities. On campus, for example, you will find a modern sports hall with a gym and group fitness courses as well as an artificial turf pitch and a beach volleyball court.

    Around 270 training instructors professionally supervise you and support you in shaking off the stress of university life. The programme includes more than 250 training sessions in more than 70 sports every week. Most of the courses and services are available to you free of charge. Even professional sports careers integrate seamlessly with your studies.

      Where should I apply for a visa?

      You should submit your application to the Swiss representative office. To study in Switzerland, you will need to apply for a national D-type visa. Be sure to contact the Swiss representative office well in advance to find out which documents and supporting evidence are required for your visa application. Take care to prepare your application thoroughly, as missing or incorrectly submitted documents can lead to delays of several weeks. Once your visa is ready, you will be notified and can collect it from the Swiss representative office.

      The Swiss representative office will forward your application to the Swiss cantonal migration office. If you specify the Canton of St.Gallen as your future place of residence, your visa application will be processed by the Migration Office of the Canton of St.Gallen. Should any delays occur, we can assist in gathering information on the status of your application from the Migration Office of St.Gallen.

      What documents does the University of St.Gallen provide?

      • Letter of admission: If you are admitted to your desired degree programme, we will send you an official letter of admission via your Compass mailbox. Please print this document in colour and include the printout with your visa application. (Note: We do not send letters of admission by post.)
      • Semester invoice: Along with your letter of admission, you will receive an invoice for the tuition fees for your first semester. Kindly pay this invoice and include both the invoice and the payment confirmation with your visa application. If you need an official payment confirmation from the University of St.Gallen, please contact the Dean's Advisory Office. We will gladly email you this confirmation once your payment is credited to our account.
      • Confirmation of matriculation: If you also require a confirmation of matriculation for your visa application, please reach out to the Dean's Advisory Office. We will be happy to email this document to you.

      Is additinal evidence required?

      • Proof of sufficient financial means: The visa authorities require proof that you have sufficient financial resources to cover your stay in Switzerland. As part of your visa application, you generally need to demonstrate that you have at least CHF 24,000. Acceptable proof includes bank statements from Swiss banks or banks with a branch or representative office in Switzerland. The account must be in your name, and the money must be available in the account. Please note that the documents must be in German or English.
      • Written pledge to leave: The migration authorities may also ask for a statement confirming that you will leave Switzerland after completing your degree.

      Financial Times (FT) rankings

      The various rankings of the Financial Times (FT) underline the broadly based and high-quality programme portfolio of the University of St.Gallen. In the FT Masters in Management Ranking, the Master in Strategy and International Management (SIM) held the top position worldwide continuously from 2011 to 2022, was ranked second in 2023 and has been ranked first again in 2024. The Master in Banking and Finance (MBF) also regularly ranks in the top ten of the FT Masters in Finance Ranking. As a result, HSG regularly ranks in the top tier in the European Business Schools Ranking, recently on nineth position.
