Key Summary
The program provides studies in key technical areas such as digital communication techniques, information theory, electronic design and high-frequency techniques. Besides a solid math science/engineering education, the student can improve their skills by tailoring the course to his requirements by choosing among a number of option modules in application fields such as security, safety, energy and environment.
Objectives
The Master’s Degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering equips graduates with advanced expertise in telecommunication and electronic systems, incorporating learning content aligned with the latest technological advancements. The program offers in-depth knowledge across core engineering domains, including digital communications, information processing, electronic circuit design, and high-frequency techniques.
Courses
The program is structured into two specialized tracks: ‘Electronics for Smart Industry’ and ‘Telecommunications for the Digital Society.’ These tracks allow students to tailor their study plans with considerable flexibility to suit their interests and career goals.
Both tracks provide comprehensive knowledge in various areas of telecommunication and electronic engineering. Key topics include:
- Analog and digital circuit design.
- Digital transmission techniques.
- Theoretical and practical aspects of information theory.
- Analysis and management of telecommunication networks.
- Representation and protection of multimedia information.
- Design of sensors and microsystems.
- High-frequency systems.
- Biomedical devices.
The curriculum also incorporates advanced mathematical calculus, including functional and complex analysis, to provide the theoretical tools needed for modeling and solving complex problems in information engineering.
Several scholarship options are available, please visit the university website for information.
Internship and international opportunities
The Department of Information Engineering and Mathematics has a strong history of collaborations with both academic and industrial partners. These partnerships provide students with opportunities to spend a semester at prestigious universities and research institutions through student exchange programs or to undertake internships at companies and research labs specialising in electronics and telecommunications engineering.
Career opportunities
Graduates of the Master’s Degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering can pursue careers in industries, public organisations, government agencies, financial institutions, and research centres. These sectors often have R&D divisions dedicated to the design, production, and management of systems for information processing and transmission, data networking, wired and wireless communication, and the development and operation of advanced electronic systems and subsystems.
Key roles are available in companies specialising in the design, production, and management of electronics and telecommunication systems, as well as infrastructure for data acquisition and transport, and IT applications in telecommunications, remote sensing, and multimedia technologies.
Typical job opportunities for graduates include positions in companies that develop or manage electronics, telecommunication and smart sensor systems in various fields, including:
- Internet of Things and Smart Industry
- Space and automotive industries.
- Agri-food, tourism, and healthcare.
- Safety and support for the elderly or disabled.
- Cultural heritage preservation.
- Energy systems.
Additionally, graduates in Electronics and Communications Engineering are eligible to join the Italian professional society of engineers under the Information Engineering section.
