Key Summary
About: The Master in Legal Sciences for Work and Security at The University of Siena develops advanced legal and socio-institutional skills across private and public law, labor law, the Third Sector, ADR, privacy, data protection, and public security. The Arezzo campus offers library access, a University Language Centre, study rooms, offices, cafeteria, and tutors.
Career Outcomes: Graduates can work as HR managers, labor consultants, law firm advisers, trade association and union officials, Third Sector tax specialists, privacy and data protection officers, corporate security managers, public security officers, legal risk and emergency management consultants, or pursue second-level Masters and PhD research.
The qualifying educational objective of the Degree Programme is to provide advanced skills in legal and socio-institutional disciplines, with a solid command of both private and public law categories, from both a national and international perspective. Combining strong training in the English language – including discipline-specific terminology – with in-depth knowledge in the sociological, economic, and legal fields, the Master’s Degree ensures an interdisciplinary education aimed at enhancing graduates’ employability, with particular attention to issues related to labour law, the Third Sector, out-of-court dispute resolution, as well as the protection of privacy and public security.
The Master’s Degree Programme is based in the city of Arezzo, strategically located along major transport routes (the Florence–Rome railway and the A1 motorway), and set within a dynamic production context that fosters constant synergies and collaborations with the University.
At the Arezzo Campus, students have access to sections of the Humanities Library and the University Language Centre, a Service Centre, and a Student and Teaching Office. There are also study rooms (CampusLab), a cafeteria with meal service, and dedicated tutors available.
The programme is structured into two curricula:
- Legal Expert in Human Resources and the Third Sector
- Legal Expert in Risk Management and Investigation
Over the two years, the programme explores numerous topics in the legal and socio-economic fields – in particular those related to labour law, the Third Sector, business management, European Union law, criminal law, and public security – as well as areas connected to communication (language and law, public policy and communication, advanced knowledge of a foreign EU language). Teaching is delivered in the traditional format (in-person lectures) and requires the active participation of students.
An internship is mandatory: students may complete it with one of the many partner organisations and companies in the region or abroad through the Erasmus+ Mobility for Traineeships programme. Participation in supplementary activities is also compulsory; these consist of practical simulations designed to develop operational skills, critical thinking, and competencies in the analysis of legal cases or legal issues. Such activities are intended to provide essential tools for a conscious entry into the labour market.
International mobility is strongly encouraged, in line with the tradition of the University of Siena.
At the end of the programme, graduates will have acquired high-level expertise in the legal and social fields, combined with excellent language skills and advanced training in the area of communication.
Several scholarship options are available, please visit the university website for information.
Graduates will be prepared for a wide range of professional roles, including positions as managers or officers in human resources management and development, work organisation, and industrial relations, as well as independent professionals in labour consultancy or collaborators in specialised law firms.
Opportunities also extend to roles as officials or executives in trade associations and interest-representation organisations, in trade unions, or in bilateral bodies. Graduates may also pursue careers as experts in tax law for Third Sector organisations, or as specialists in occupational health and safety, privacy protection, personal data processing, and competition law.
Further possibilities include positions as corporate security managers, or as public administration officials with expertise in security (broadly understood), as well as legal consultants in risk and emergency management.
In addition, graduates of the LM/SC-GIUR programme may continue their studies through second-level Master’s degrees to gain further specialisation, or pursue doctoral research programmes in Italy or abroad.
