Introduction
Since September 2020, SBC and USST offer students a fantastic and unique opportunity to earn both a British bachelor degree and a Chinese bachelor degree. If international students have a strong desire to learn Chinese, they can be dual enrolled. After four years of study at SBC, students can earn both a British bachelor degree certificate from Liverpool John Moores University and a Chinese bachelor degree certificate from the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST).

Programme Aims
This major cultivates engineering and technical personnel with reasonable knowledge structure and international communication ability, who can be engaged in mechanical product design, development, manufacturing, automatic detection, control and management. Specific objectives include:
Be able to put forward, analyze and solve complex engineering problems in the field by comprehensively using engineering mathematical knowledge and mechanical engineering professional knowledge.
Be able to track the cutting-edge technology of mechanical engineering and intelligent manufacturing and other related fields, creatively use modern tools to engage in the design, development and production of related products, and have the ability of project management.
Understand and abide by professional ethics, be familiar with engineering specifications, and be able to comprehensively consider the influence of law, environment and sustainable development in engineering practice.
Be able to carry out multidisciplinary and cross-cultural technical exchanges, and have the ability of teamwork, communication and expression
Characteristics
Students of this major mainly study the basic theory of mechanical design and manufacturing, learn the basic knowledge of microelectronics technology and information processing technology, accept the basic training of modern mechanical engineers, cultivate international vision and self-learning ability, and have the basic strength of mechanical product design, manufacturing and equipment control, production organization and management.
Graduates should acquire the following knowledge and abilities:
- Engineering knowledge: have the theory and knowledge of mathematical and natural science, and have the ability of modelling and analytical calculation applied in science and technology. Master the basic theory and knowledge of engineering drawing, mechanics, electronics, computer and other mechanical engineering disciplines, and have the necessary drawing and computing ability of mechanical engineering discipline.
- Problem analysis: be able to master the basic theory and knowledge in the fields of mechanics, automatic control, manufacturing and automation, and have the ability to design and analyze mechanical products and systems. It can identify, express and analyze complex engineering problems through literature research to obtain effective conclusions.
- Design/development solutions: have the basic skills of drawing, calculation, experiment, testing, literature retrieval and basic process operation, and have the ability to initially apply new technologies, new methods and new processes to develop new products.
- Research: be able to study complex engineering problems in the field of mechanical engineering based on scientific principles and scientific methods, including designing experiments, analyzing and interpreting data, and getting reasonable and effective conclusions through information synthesis, with a strong sense of innovation.
- Use of modern tools: have strong computer application ability, required to reach the second level of computer application. Be able to develop, select and use appropriate technology, resources, modern engineering tools and information technology tools for complex engineering problems.
- Engineering and society: be able to make a reasonable analysis based on engineering-related background knowledge, evaluate the impact of mechanical engineering practice and product design on the environment, and have strong green design awareness and responsibility.
- Environment and sustainable development: be able to understand and evaluate the impact of professional engineering practice for complex engineering problems on the environment and socially sustainable development.
- Professional norms have a solid foundation in natural science, good humanities and social science literacy and sense of social responsibility, be able to understand and abide by engineering professional ethics and norms in engineering practice and fulfil responsibilities.
- Individual and team: be able to play the role of the individual, team member and leader in product development, manufacturing and production management teams.
- Communication: have a high level of English, broad international vision and cross-cultural communication ability. Be able to effectively communicate with peers and the public on mechanical engineering issues, including writing technical reports and conducting technical exchanges. Be able to read relevant English literature, have a certain level of English listening and speaking, and be able to communicate in cross-cultural background.
- Project management: have professional knowledge in the field of mechanical design, manufacturing and automation, have a preliminary understanding of engineering management principles and economic decision-making methods, and have certain production organization and engineering management ability through various practical activities and team cooperation training.
- Lifelong learning: have a strong sense of self-learning and lifelong learning, have the ability to constantly learn and adapt to development, and understand the development trend and scientific frontier of the major at home and abroad
