Key Summary
Cyber security is a global concern, impacting every society that relies on being digitally connected. The stakes are high. Software, hardware, systems, data, information, and people are vulnerable to cyber-attacks. Cybercrime incidents span local, regional, and international boundaries, requiring skilled legal and digital forensics investigations. Cybersecurity requires passionate and dedicated individuals who can rise to its diverse and complex challenges.
Our BSc Cyber Security course cultivates creative and professional cybersecurity graduates who can solve problems, are knowledgeable, skilled, and ready for industry upon graduation. You will experience technical and non-technical cybersecurity disciplines, helping you identify your strengths and make informed decisions about future career pathways.
In your first year, you will learn about the anatomy of computing devices, how they process data, how data is stored and how to write software. You will also learn the foundations of how to secure computing devices and how to investigate and recover data forensically.
In your second and third years, you will have the opportunity to enhance your programming and digital forensics skills further and conduct live network forensics. You will also learn about cyber law, risk, governance, secure cloud computing, network security, and ethical hacking.
Between Year 2 and Year 3, you can undertake an industrial placement year, allowing you to gain valuable work experience relevant to your career aspirations.
We deliver all computing programmes in an active blended learning style, with most lectures replaced by workshops and seminars. Our approach provides a learning environment focused on collaborative working in practical lab spaces, immersed in an environment based on working in the IT industry.
We have aligned BSc Cyber Security with industrial programmes and associated certification opportunities (e.g., AWS, Splunk). Students may work towards industry-recognised certifications at an appropriate time during their degree programme, allowing them to distinguish themselves professionally early in their future careers.
Our BSc Cyber Security course develops highly sought-after skills in a growing industry.

Why take a placement?
A placement year is a perfect opportunity to gain valuable work experience, to build on the career skills we will teach you on this degree. How we support you
The University’s Placement and Work Experience Team are experts at helping you to secure a placement.
