Introduction
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Pécs offers a BA in German Studies, specializing in German as a Minority Language. The students acquire knowledge in the areas of the German language, literature, and culture and develop skills in intercultural communication. Students specializing in German as a minority language also learn about the history, language use, folk culture, and literature of the Hungarian Germans.
The courses are mainly held in small groups, which enables individual support for the students. A lot of value is placed on methodological diversity, there are seminars, exercises, and tutorials, opportunities for group work, and the development of projects. The courses in various areas of German studies develop the communicative skills of the students and enable them to express themselves appropriately on various topics, both verbally and in writing.
The German Institute also offers numerous opportunities to get involved with the German language and culture outside of the university courses: student workshops, theater groups, readings by German-speaking authors, theater performances by the German Theater in Hungary, etc.
Since the University of Pécs maintains relationships with numerous renowned universities throughout Europe, students also have opportunities for international exchange.
