Introduction
Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Science (PGDipAppSc) - Consumer Food Science
The Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Science (PGDipAppSc) is a two semester Program, which builds on an undergraduate Applied Science degree. It allows people who are currently working to undertake blocks of study - one block for the certificate, a second block to complete the diploma. Alternatively, students may wish to complete the 120 point Program in a continuous run.

Curriculum
The Program of study: i. shall consist of approved 400- and 500-level papers, to the value of 120 points, selected from the papers specified in Science Schedule D for the Master of Applied Science subject concerned.
- ii. shall normally include papers from more than one subject and at least one of the approved 400-level papers that shall be amongst the first papers taken in the Program of study.
- iii. may, with the approval of the Head of Department or Course Director concerned, include papers worth up to 40 points from 400- and 500-level papers other than those specified in Science Schedule D.
- A candidate who has completed the requirements for the Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Science shall be exempted from those papers in the Program for the diploma which have been previously passed for the certificate.

Career Opportunities
Consumer Food Science encompasses many different subjects and applications, and that's reflected in the breadth of job opportunities. Our graduates frequently find employment before they have even completed their final year at university. You could end up working for a national or international food company specialising in dairy, confectionery, brewing, fruit and vegetables, seafood or any other foodstuff.
Graduates go into research institutes, for example, Plant and Food Research, or government agencies such as the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI). There are exciting career options in food quality management, food promotion, sensory analysis, teaching, marketing, consumer research and the hospitality industry.
