Master of Biomedical Sciences (MBiomedSc)
The University of Otago has a strong international reputation for biomedical research. The Master of Biomedical Sciences (MBiomedSc) is a one year thesis only postgraduate degree, which will allow you to further your career in biomedical sciences.
It provides an excellent foundation for an academic or research career, and an internationally-recognised stepping stone for possible into a PhD program.

Curriculum
- a. The degree may be awarded in any of the subjects listed in the MBiomedSc Schedule. With the approval of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences) the degree may be awarded in a subject not listed in the MBiomedSc Schedule.
- b. The program of study shall consist of the preparation and submission of a thesis embodying the results of supervised research.
- c. Prior to commencement of the thesis, the topic and supervisors of the thesis shall be approved by the Head of Department concerned and then the Director of the Biomedical Sciences program (or nominee).
- d. A candidate may not present a thesis which has previously been accepted for another degree.

Available at our Christchurch, Dunedin, and Wellington campuses, the MBiomedSc degree involves a period of supervised research in one of six biomedical fields:
- Drugs and Human Health
- Functional Human Biology
- Infection and Immunity
- Molecular Basis of Health and Disease
- Nutrition and Metabolism in Human Health
- Reproduction, Genetics and Development
Projects can be undertaken in one of our many departments involved in biomedical research.

Application Details
Applicants must apply online. They should also attach all the necessary supporting documents which includes scanned copies of their previous official academic transcripts (awards gained, marks, grades) with their application, and provide proof of their identity this is usually achieved by providing a certified copy of the personal details page of their passport or a birth certificate (in English). Applicants must also submit detailed research proposal that shows they are familiar with current literature surrounding their topic; an up-to date curriculum vitae; and name of the academic staff member with whom they have been in contact; and with an approximate start date. They may also be required to submit an Educational Credential Evaluators report (ECE). As soon as applicants have completed their online application, their proof of identity document must be posted to International Office, University of Otago, PO Box 56, Dunedin 9054, New Zealand.
