Master of Arts in Student Affairs

The Master of Arts in Postsecondary Education with a focus on Student Affairs is designed for individuals who are passionate about supporting and enhancing the college experience for students beyond the classroom. Our program offers a comprehensive and specialized curriculum that prepares graduates to excel as student affairs professionals, administrators, and advocates in higher education settings.

Through a blend of coursework, experiential learning, and practical experiences, students in our program gain the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to address the diverse needs of college students and promote their academic success, personal development, and overall well-being. They engage with research-based practices in student affairs, explore theories of student development, and learn how to design and implement programs and services that foster student engagement, retention, and success.

The Master of Arts in Postsecondary Education with a focus on Student Affairs curriculum covers a wide range of topics, including student development theory, multicultural competence, counseling and advising, crisis intervention, leadership development, and student organization management. Students also learn about legal and ethical issues in higher education, assessment and evaluation, and strategic planning to enhance their effectiveness as student affairs professionals.

Throughout the program, students have opportunities to apply their learning in real-world settings through internships, practicum experiences, or assistantships in college and university student affairs offices, residence life programs, career services centers, or student activities departments. They work closely with experienced student affairs professionals and faculty mentors to develop their leadership skills, build professional networks, and make meaningful contributions to the campus community.

Upon completion of the program, graduates are prepared to become effective leaders and change agents in the field of student affairs in higher education. They may pursue careers as residence hall directors, academic advisors, career counselors, student activities coordinators, or diversity and inclusion officers.
