The University of Miami Pre-College offers both credit and non-credit programs for high school students seeking to gain college experience before graduating from high school. Upon completion, participants feel better prepared for the undergraduate admission process and gain confidence in their academic choices and ability to succeed in college.
We offer both credit and non-credit options across a wide range of academic fields, including business law, marine biology, architecture, filmmaking, sports medicine, and more. Hands-on learning is at the heart of our programs—students can tag sharks, conduct mock trials, design creative digital content.
By the end of the program, students leave with newfound confidence in their ability to thrive in a college setting and a clearer vision for their future. The possibilities are endless!
Summer Scholars
Students select one academic specialty from UM's schools and colleges. Each academic specialty consists of two courses for a total of 6 credit hours. Courses are structured around hands-on experiences, guest lecturers, open discussion, lab work and field trips. Classes are held daily, Monday through Friday. Morning class is from 8:10 - 11:40 am and afternoon class is from 1:10 - 4:40 pm.
UM Academies
Students select one course (non-credit) to study over the two-week session. Classes are held daily, Monday through Friday in an engaging, experiential academic setting. Morning class is from 9:15 - 11:30 am and afternoon class is from 1:00 - 3:15 pm.

Summer Scholars | Three-Week Credit Program (Summer)
The Summer Scholars Program provides an exciting opportunity for current high school sophomores and juniors to explore their academic passions and experience what it's like to be a college student. This unique three-week pre-college program allows students to earn college credit, interact with world-class professors, make lasting friendships, and grow as independent thinkers.

UM Academies | 2-Week Non-Credit Courses (Summer)
The UM Academies offers two-week, non-credit enrichment courses for high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Take an in-depth look at ocean predators and ecology – Shark Tagging – in the Shark Research and Conservation Academy in partnership with the University of Miami’s Department of Marine Science; learn from entrepreneurs and bring your business ideas to life in the Entrepreneurship Academy, or strengthen your investigative skills and gain analytical proficiency in the Crime Scene Investigation and Forensic Science Academy.

Pre-College Academic Year Program
Architecture & AI| 16-Week Online 3 Credit Course (January - May, Saturdays Only)
This course is designed for students interested in architectural history and theory yet pursuing majors outside of the formal study of architecture. As such, the content in this course is more diverse than a more traditionally formatted Introduction to Architecture class might be. The course material will primarily be delivered by two distinct methods: Lectures and small discussion groups. The lectures will cover a range of topics including fundamental lessons important to understanding the development of architecture, related to time, place and culture. In these instances, practical experiences and applied research will be shared, offering a broader demonstration of the circumstantial relationship between architecture and related fields of study. The discussions and assignments will give students an opportunity to reinforce their understanding of the content delivered in the lectures. All students will be evaluated based on their ability to comprehend course content and demonstrate an ability to relate it to a broader societal context. This can be achieved through class participation, exercises as well as final presentation.
Summer Scholars: Three-Week, Credit Program
Individuals should be self-motivated and prepared to study an academic discipline in a rigorous scholarly program, while earning college credit.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Current sophomore or junior in high school
- Grade point average of at least 3.0 (based on a 4.0 scale)
UM Academies: Two-Week, Non-Credit Program
For highly motivated students seeking an immersive academic program in a non-credit format.

- Grade point average of at least 3.0 (based on a 4.0 scale)
The Pre-College Program does not offer financial aid or payment plans for any participants.
- Scholarships are not available to international students.
- Domestic students from low-income families may be eligible for the Vista Scholarship, which provides financial assistance. Additional information regarding scholarship eligibility and the application process is available on the program website.

Students who complete the Pre-College Program build a solid foundation in STEM, Business, and Marine studies, while strengthening their analytical, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Through immersive, college-level coursework, they gain the confidence and preparation needed to excel in higher education and future career pursuits.
