Key Summary
Management is leading others to accomplish common goals in business. Today’s managers are people-oriented, creative, adaptable and strong communicators. They have to know how to deal effectively with rapidly changing environments, work successfully with small and large teams, live and work by principles of ethics and social responsibility and be aware of responsibilities to sustainability.
As a major in general management, you'll study topics such as marketing, organizational behaviour, introductory accounting, managing responsibly in a global environment, human resources management, policy and strategy and probability and statistics. You will draw from fields such as history, English, political science, economics and sociology.
Many of our students choose a minor to go with their general management major to enhance their knowledge in a specific line of study. There are many minors to choose from, including accounting, agriculture enterprise management, family and small business management, fintech and financial innovation, Indigenous business management, marketing, supply chain and operations management and more. NEW! Bow Valley College/University of Lethbridge Integrated Pathway (Calgary)
ULethbridge in Calgary has partnered with Bow Valley College (BVC) to offer a new program for recently admitted domestic high school graduates. Participants complete a ULethbridge Bachelor of Management (General Management) degree and BVC Business Administration diploma (Supply Chain Management) in four years. Students will take classes simultaneously through both institutions while following a shared curriculum for both credentials.
Why take general management at the Dhillon School of Business?
Many choose the general management major because it provides a comprehensive understanding of business and managerial skills that can take them anywhere. You may also choose it because of the opportunity to design your program or start your own business. If you're a budding entrepreneur, a broad-based understanding of business will position you to succeed.
As a general management major, you’ll gain a broad background in all management areas and have the maximum flexibility to choose courses that fit your personal and career interests. In addition to the required courses, the major includes six 3000- or 4000-level management electives.
Many of our students also enrol in cooperative education while at the Dhillon School of Business. Co-op allows you to get paid work experience before you graduate and can even help you land a job immediately after graduation.
Between 2021 & 2022, 62% of new high school grads received financial awards averaging $1,041.
We work hard to offset the cost of tuition with scholarships and paid work-integrated learning opportunities for students.
We have made it as simple as possible for you to apply for scholarships and awards. By completing both our general awards application and our undergraduate awards application online, you have access to approximately 90% of the available awards at ULethbridge!
$1.09 million was distributed to incoming new high school and transfer students through the Alberta Scholarship Program, ULethbridge awards, and athletic awards. These award recipients received over $1,000 ($1,062) on average.
