Introduction
The International Trade Law LLM at the University of Leeds offers a comprehensive understanding of the legal frameworks that govern global trade. This programme combines theoretical knowledge with practical application, equipping students with essential skills to navigate the complexities of international trade law. Students will critically evaluate legal rules and policies, undertake independent research, and develop transferable skills such as critical thinking and advanced communication abilities. The course prepares graduates for careers in academia, legal practice, supranational organisations, and industry. Offered within the Centre for Business Law and Practice (CBLP), students benefit from a research-led environment with access to co-curricular activities that enhance their learning experience. The CBLP features links to the business community and opportunities to engage with industry professionals through seminars and conferences. Compulsory modules cover international law, World Trade Organisation law, and international economic law, while optional modules allow for specialisation in areas such as banking and corporate finance. The programme also emphasises the development of legal research and writing skills, culminating in a dissertation. Teaching methods include seminars, lectures, and independent study, fostering a high level of student engagement. Assessment typically involves essays and a dissertation of up to 10,000 words, ensuring students demonstrate their understanding and analytical skills effectively.
