Introduction
The LLM in Criminal Justice and Criminal Law at the University of Leeds is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of criminal justice and law, both domestically and internationally. This advanced postgraduate course focuses on current issues in these fields, equipping students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to navigate complex legal scenarios. The curriculum includes a mix of compulsory and optional modules, allowing students to tailor their studies to their interests. Key areas of exploration include the dynamics of the criminal justice process, critical issues in criminal law, and the development of legal research skills. The course is supported by the Centre for Criminal Justice Studies (CCJS), which is renowned for its interdisciplinary research and high-quality teaching. Students will engage with empirical research and policy-relevant issues, benefiting from the Centre's strong connections with local criminal justice organisations. The programme also emphasises the importance of academic and personal development, providing support through workshops and one-to-one sessions. Students will undertake a dissertation, showcasing their independent research on a chosen topic. The course is delivered on campus over a full-time duration of 12 months, starting in September 2025. Graduates will be well-prepared for careers in public service, law firms, and various sectors where advanced knowledge of criminal justice is essential. The programme encourages students to think critically and develop skills that are highly valued by employers.
